Nevada women’s basketball takes on Boise State in annual Black History game

RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball is back in action Saturday at Lawlor Events Center at 1 p.m., taking on Boise State in its annual Black History game.

In addition to the traditional in-game activities, Saturday's game will be a day celebrating the impact of African-Americans both past and present. Have a Heart Washoe County is the proud sponsor of Saturday's game.

Saturday's game will be available to watch on the Nevada Sports Net/Mountain West Network and available to listen on KPLY 630 AM. Emmy award-winning broadcaster Larry Burnett will be on the radio play-by-play once again for Nevada women's basketball, where fans can also listen online through the Varsity Network.

AWESOME AUDREY
Audrey Roden, a member of the 2021-22 Mountain West All-Freshman Team, returns to Nevada for her junior season. Roden is less than 100 points away from becoming the 15th 1,000 point scorer in Nevada women's basketball history. She started the season by registering her fifth career 20-point game by dropping 21 in the season opener Nov. 9. As a sophomore, Roden finished in the top 20 in the Mountain West in scoring average in conference games. She came up with her second career double-double Nov. 29 against San Diego (22 points, 11 rebounds).

BANWAREESINGH WITH THE BOARDS
Fifth year guard/forward has been a major contributor to Nevada's bench this season. Banwareesingh has three double-digit rebounding games while wearing a Nevada uniform, most recently obtaining 12 boards Feb. 14 against San Diego State. Banwareesingh, who has the longest last name on Nevada, is nicknamed "Kay B" by the team. When her great, great, great grandfather went to get his passport in Trinidad, the passport company put his middle name "Banwaree" with his last name, "Singh". The last name stuck with the Banwareesingh family for years to come.

EARLY WORK
Nevada has two freshmen in Dymonique Maxie and Izzy Sullivan that are climbing the freshmen ranks in the NCAA Era. Maxie currently has the fourth-most steals by a Nevada freshman. Maxie needs 18 more steals to claim the Nevada Freshmen Steals Record set by Carissa Meyer (1994-95). Sullivan is currently third among Nevada freshmen in the NCAA Era in made 3-pointers in a single season. She needs 12 more to claim the Nevada Freshmen 3-Pointers Record set by current Nevada teammate Audrey Roden

RISING IN THE RANKS
Nevada currently ranks in the top four in the Mountain West in several categories. Nevada co-leads the conference in offensive rebounds per game (12.83) and is second in the conference in steals per game (8.33). The Pack is currently third in 3-point field goal percentage defense (30.2%), turnover margin (+3.25), offensive rebounding percentage (32.7%) and steals (92) while ranking fourth in scoring offense (64.7) and rebounding offense (36.5).

SCOUTING BOISE STATE
Nevada won in thrilling fashion in its last meeting against Boise State, holding on for a 58-57 victory Jan. 3 in Boise. The Broncos have won games through their defense, holding opponents to just 56.6 points per game. Boise State outrebounds its opponents by an average of 5.6 boards per game and nearly grabs 41 rebounds per game.

Natalie Pasco leads the Broncos in scoring with 14.2 points per game. Abby Muse anchors the Boise State defense, coming down with nine rebounds per game. Muse is also the nation's and the Mountain West's leader in blocked shots with 82.
