Herrera’s home run ignites Pack offense in final game of Paradise Classic

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Nevada concludes the Hawai'i Paradise Classic with a win against Kansas City. Nevada went 2-0 against the Roos, defeating them 2-1 Thursday night and a 5-1 victory this afternoon.
 
Game Notables:
Charli Hawkins got the offense started in the bottom of the second, with a single to left center. Gabby Herrera followed with a two-run home run over the center field wall, putting the Pack up 2-0.
 
In the third, the Pack tacked on two more runs. Chelie Senini singled through the left side to get on base. Senini stole second and Haley Painter brought Senini home with a single to center field. Bailie Clark came into the game as a pinch runner for Painter, stole third, and scored on a throwing error, bringing home the fourth run of the game.  
 
Taryn Jenkins in her 100th career game homered to left field to put the Pack up 5-0.
 
Blake Craft got her second start of the tournament, her first one coming from a five-inning victory over Hawai'i on Thursday. Craft retired the side striking out the second and third batters in the first inning. Craft held the Roos hitless until the fourth inning, giving up a single. Craft went five innings, matching her season high four strikeouts, walking three, with one run on two hits.
 
Tyra Clary came in for relief in the sixth, finishing out the game. Clary came in with one runner on and gave up a single and a walk to load the bases. She walked in the runner Craft was responsible for, giving the Roos their only run of the game. Clary retired the three batters she faced in the seventh, locking in Nevada's third and final victory of the Paradise Classic. She went two innings striking out one, walking two and allowed no runs on one hit.
 
Up Next:
The Pack will head to Santa Clara, Calif. for the Silicon Valley Classic facing opponents Santa Clara, Portland State, Fordham, and Seattle U. The tournament runs Thursday, Feb. 15 to Sunday, Feb. 18.
