RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball dominated in its home opener, taking down the Bushnell Beacons with a final score of 70-48
The opening quarter kicked off with a basket by Bushnell, but Nevada quickly grabbed the lead with a made three by
Lexie Givens, she went on to go 3-5 from behind the arc. From there, the Wolf Pack saw four more players get on the board, allowing Nevada to jump ahead by as much as 10 points.
With an 18-10 lead heading into the second, the Wolf Pack really found their stride as they went on an 16-0 run and extended the lead to 22. The defense of the Pack kept the Beacons off the board for more than half of the second quarter. Bushnell didn't score again until there was four minutes left in the half and was held to a 30.8 shooting percentage.
The Wolf Pack continued to outscore their opponent in the third. Nevada ended the quarter shooting over 55% from inside.
Quarter four was the closest, as Bushnell led 14-12. Still, the Pack held them to a 35.7 shooting percentage. Nevada went on to grab its first win of the season and even its record at 1-1
Kennedy Lee made a lot of noise for Nevada, recording 12 points and five rebounds in the first 20 alone. She ended the game with 17 points and six rebounds. Givens had 14 points, followed by
Izzy Sullivan with 10.
Nevada will next play Colorado in a neutral game held at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. This is the first college basketball game to be held there. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
