Reno, Nev. - The Wolf Pack surged to a big win in the home opener against Sam Houston to bring momentum into the new season. The Wolf Pack started the game on a good foot with a 10-2 run to begin the game, which set the tone for the rest of the contest. The Bearkats steadily fought back throughout the game while giving up big runs that brought the score back within single digits on multiple occasions. Sam Houston had four players in double figures, led by Boykin shooting 50 percent from the field, shooting 7-7 from the free throw line.
Sam Houston won the battle from the bench, scoring 29 points to the Wolf Pack's 12. Leading the charge off the bench for the Bearkats was #57 Hammons, who scored 14 points and shot 50 percent from the 3-point line. Sam Houston ended the half shooting 35.7 percent from the three-point line and 38.7 percent from the field to keep the game within three going into the second half.
The Wolf Pack started the second half on a 15-9 run, creating separation from the Bearkats. As the game carried on, the Wolf Pack started to click. With momentum trending upwards throughout the game, multiple runs, shooting 71.4 percent from the three in the second half, and big-time plays from the players all around, the Pack came out with a 91-75 win to start the season.
Davidson started hot, scoring 7 points to begin the game and collecting a double-double, scoring a career-high in points with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks on an efficient 80 percent from the field and 60 percent from the outside.
Sanders finished with a stellar 27 points, six rebounds, and four assists on 64 percent shooting in his debut with the Wolf Pack.
Coleman had a great night, notching 13 points, eight assists, and three steals for his welcome back home in Lawlor.
