SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Nevada soccer faced Colorado State in the Mountain West Tournament opening round, falling to the Rams with a final score of 4-1.
The MW postseason appearance was the second consecutive for the Wolf Pack. They clinched a spot after taking down UNLV on Thursdays night, 1-0.
Tonight, The Pack took on the Rams, who they faced just a few weeks ago in a match that ended 1-0 after an unlucky goal.
Nevada came out firing from the beginning with two back-to-back shots in the early minutes by
Serene Gronauer and
Maddie Benson, but they were just off target.
In the 19th minute, the Wolf Pack found themselves down as the Rams scored the first goal of the game. However, Nevada was not rolling over as it kept the ball in the offensive end and took five more shots before Colorado State could attempt another.
The 34th minute saw another goal by the Rams, the Wolf Pack now trailing by two.
Two minutes later,
Trinity Sandridge scored in her second game in a row to bring Nevada back within one.
With another goal by Colorado State before the break, Nevada was trailing, 3-1, after the first 45.
Despite the Wolf Pack out shooting their opponent in the second period, the Rams added another to make the score 4-1.
Nevada never gave up the fight, still holding strong until the final seconds, but ultimately dropped the match.
Emily Rich led the Pack with four shots, three of them on goal.
Cassidy Bell had three shots, two of them on goal.
Alyssa Szarlacki recorded four saves in the goal for Nevada.
