Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Nevada Pulls Out The Win Against VCU

Reno, Nev. - The Wolf Pack pulled out a stunning 64-61 win against VCU to advance to the consolation champion game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Rams led almost the entirety of the game, with their most significant lead being as much as 15 points, which was 3 minutes into the second half.

VCU had three players in double figures, making a substantial impact for the Rams. The Rams were led by Zeb Jackson, who ended the game with 18, Shulga with 17 points, and Barnisile with 12 points. However, the Wolf Pack fought back vigorously to eventually come out with a nail-biting win on a game-winning shot by Kobe Sanders with 5 seconds left to play.

First Half:
Through the first half, the game seemed bleak for the Wolf Pack, scoring a season-low 23 points in the first half while trailing by 11 points in the second half. However, both teams' overall field goal percentage was about the same through the first half.

The Rams made 5 out of 14 three-pointers in the first half in combination with hitting 9 out of 10 free throws in the first. In contrast, Nevada only attempted four three-pointers and shot 2 of 5 from the line, which is a big proponent of the extensive lead for VCU. Jackson for VCU got hot for the Rams, ending the half with 11 points and starting hot from the outside, going 3 of 5 from the 3-point line.

Second Half:
The Wolf Pack finally found their momentum play-by-play on both ends to shorten the gap to VCU, only leading with as much as three headed into the 8-minute media of the second half. Big Shots came from Davidson, Hymes, Coleman, DuSell, among others.

The Wolf Pack eventually took their first lead since the first half, going up one with 3 minutes through back-and-forth action and the lead changing quickly, eventually coming to a game tied at 61. Nick Davidson threw a great pass to find Kobe Sanders in the left corner to bomb a three to seal the game with 5 seconds left. In the game prior, Sanders missed the same three-pointer in the loss vs Vanderbilt to go up in a close match.

Notable Stats:

-Nick Davidson was the Wolf Pack's leading scorer, finishing with 15 points, 5 Rebounds, and 4 Assists on 71 percent shooting from the field.

-Kobe Sanders finished with 10 points, 4 Rebounds, 4 assists, and the game-winning shot to seal the deal.

-The Wolf Pack had at least eight players who scored 4 points or more.

-The Rams were held to 29.4 percent on 17 attempts from the three-point line in the second half.

-The Rams won the battle in second-chance points with VCU getting 18 second chance points to Nevada's 8

-The Rams also won the battle from the bench, with VCu scoring 22 points from the bench compared to Nevada's 15.
