Box Score BERKELEY, Calif. – Nevada freshman Petra Janigova made her collegiate debut this past weekend at the Cal Fall Invitational, advancing to the gold finals and securing a podium position in her first career tournament.
 
Janigova was placed in the gold flight along with teammate Marlene Foerster. The Slovakian native won her first match of the season in a tight contest against Sacramento State's Palina Saulevich, prevailing 6-1, 5-7, 6-0. Janigova defeated her next two opponents in straight sets, first winning her quarterfinal match against Saint Mary's Olivia Rook, 6-2, 6-4. She clinched her spot in the final with a commanding victory over host California's Cami Brown, 6-0, 6-2. However, her run ended in the final, where conference rival Emma Fantusis claimed victory, 6-1, 6-1.
 
Foerster lost her only gold flight match to Saint Mary's Madison Weekley, 6-4, 6-1, but rebounded with two consolation wins. She defeated Pacific's Zara Fung, 6-1, 6-1, and Santa Clara's Anna Rahman, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Janigova continued her success in the doubles draw with partner Kennedy Robinson. The duo opened their doubles weekend with a thrilling 8-5 victory over Stanford's Morgan Schaffer and Emma Sun. They followed up with a quarterfinal win over Pacific's Megan Carmichael and Milena Mayorova in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (5). Their run ended in the semifinal with an 8-5 loss to California's Tiziana Marie Schomburg and Naomi Xu.
 
Foerster and her partner, Lou-Anne Guerbert, closed their doubles weekend with a consolation victory, defeating Santa Clara's Tian Yu Dong and Jillian Roa, 8-7 (3).
 
Nevada now makes a quick turnaround to the Mountain West Fall Qualifier, a new addition to the fall schedule. The tournament will begin Wednesday, October 2, and is being held in Las Vegas, Nev. Nevada will send three singles players and two doubles pairs to the tournament. The outright winner of the qualifier will earn a spot in the ITA Masters tournament later this fall.
