Coleman’s Career-High Not Enough as Nevada Falls at Wyoming

RENO, Nev. - Tre Coleman scored a career high 23 points on 8-14 shooting from the field and 4-8 from behind the arc; however, the Nevada Men's Basketball team's comeback attempt down the stretch came up short, as they failed to erase a 15-point deficit and fell on the road to Wyoming by a final score of 98-93.

Following the loss, Nevada owns a record of 15-4 on the season, including a mark of 2-3 in Mountain West play.

Nevada had an impressive offensive performance, as the 93 points scored in the game marked the Pack's second-highest total in a contest this season; but, the 98 points allowed by Nevada was the most that they have given up in a game this year.

Nevada shot 50.7 percent from the field throughout the game (35-69), including a mark of 39.2 percent from behind the arc (11-28). The Pack also pulled down 17 offensive rebounds and scored 40 points in the paint.

Coleman led the way with an offensive explosion for the second consecutive game, as the senior forward has significantly elevated his play since the beginning of conference play.

Coleman surpassed his previous career-high of 22 points, which was set in the same arena last season, by pouring in 23 points throughout Saturday's game, 18 of which came in the second half. The senior also pulled down five rebounds, dished out four assists, and recorded four steals in what was potentially the most complete single-game performance of his career.

Jarod Lucas also had a stellar offensive night, dropping 20 points on 7-13 shooting from the field, including 3-5 from behind the arc.

Nick Davidson had a strong bounce back game after struggling against San Diego State. The redshirt-sophomore matched a career-high by scoring 19 points on 7-12 shooting from the field, including 2-4 from behind the arc. Davidson also grabbed five rebounds in the game.

Kenan Blackshear did not have his usual scoring output, as he posted just nine points in the game; however, the fifth-year senior dished out a game-high eight assists in the contest.

Redshirt-junior Tylan Pope had arguably his best performance of the season for the Pack, scoring eight points on 4-5 shooting from the field, in addition to pulling down three rebounds, and tallying one steal and one block.

Defensively, Nevada struggled to contain Wyoming throughout the night. The Cowboys entered Saturday's contest as the best 3-point shooting team in the Mountain West; and they maintained that status by draining 13 shots from behind the arc on 23 attempts for a clip of 56.5 percent.

Overall, Wyoming shot 57.7 percent from the field for the game, and the Cowboys knocked down 25 free throws on 35 attempts (71.4%).

Nevada led for 13:15 seconds in the game; however, they trailed for the entire second half.

First Half

Nevada started off the game in exceptional fashion, knocking down five of their first eight field goal attempts.

After the Cowboys won the opening tip, Nevada got a stop on defense and on the other end of the court, K.J. Hymes posted up his defender and finished a hook shot through contact, earning an and-one opportunity. Hymes missed the free throw; but, the Pack corralled an offensive rebound, and after Lucas missed a jumper, Hymes grabbed another offensive board and scored another basket.

Wyoming scored their first points of the game 26 seconds later; but, on the Pack's next offensive possession, Blackshear found Coleman open, and he proceeded to drain his first 3-pointer of the night, giving the Pack a 7-2 lead at the 17:48 mark.

The Cowboys responded with a 3-pointer of their own; but, Nevada ripped off an 8-0 run over a 1:25 stretch of gametime to take a 15-5 lead with 15:45 left in the first half.

The run began with Lucas splashing a contested mid-range jumper, before Davidson drilled his first 3-pointer of the game.

Lucas then drained a second consecutive 3-pointer for the Pack, as Nevada found themselves with a 10-point lead early on in the contest.

Wyoming battled back, and slowly chipped away at Nevada's lead. The Cowboys were finally able to tie the game up at 27 points apiece with 6:16 remaining in the first half, marking the first time the game was tied since it was 0-0.

Wyoming took their first lead of the game on two free throws shortly after, as they held a 29-27 advantage over Nevada.

Freshman Tyler Rolison entered the game, and Daniel Foster found him wide open under the rim for an easy reverse layup to even the contest at 29 points apiece.

The Cowboys knocked down two free throws; however, Rolison responded with a 3-pointer, as the Pack recaptured the lead with 4:21 remaining in the half, holding a 32-31 edge over Wyoming.

Wyoming outscored Nevada 12-6 over the remainder of the period, as Nevada trailed 44-37 at the break.

Second Half

Wyoming continued their offensive outburst in the second period, as every time Nevada attempted to make a run, the Cowboys had an answer on the offensive end of the floor.

After extending their lead up to double digits multiple times, Wyoming pushed their advantage all the way up to 15 points with 8:10 remaining after hitting a transition 3-pointer.

Facing their largest deficit of the game with just over eight minutes to go, Nevada significantly elevated their intensity on both ends of the court, as they began to chip away at Wyoming's lead and get back in the game.

Pope entered the contest and sparked a 7-0 run for the Pack, as he scored back-to-back buckets in the paint, before Blackshear found Coleman open behind the arc, and Coleman drained another 3-pointer.

Wyoming pushed their lead back up to 10 points two separate times over the next 1:18, as Nevada trailed the Cowboys 82-72 with 5:51 left.

Coleman scored three straight points to trim the deficit down to seven, and Davidson made a lone free throw, bringing the Pack within six points of Wyoming with 4:45 remaining.

After a pair of free throws from Wyoming, Coleman scored once again, as Nevada trailed 84-78 with 4:22 left after the bucket.

Wyoming extended their lead back up to eight points again; but, Blackshear made a free throw and Coleman continued his dominant second half by pulling down a tough offensive rebound and finishing another layup, bringing the Pack within five points of the Cowboys with just 3:22 left in the contest.

The Cowboys hit another timely 3-pointer to take an eight-point lead; but, Davidson made a layup on the other end to cut the deficit to six with just under two and a half minutes remaining.

The Cowboys pushed their lead back up to eight on their next possession; however, the Pack reeled off a 5-0 run, as they trailed by just three points with 35 seconds on the clock.

Wyoming managed to knock down seven of eight free throw attempts over the final 33 seconds, and the Pack's comeback attempt came up just short, as they fell to the Cowboys by a final score of 98-93.
