RENO, Nev. - The Nevada Men's Basketball put together a late comeback attempt, however, they were unable to recover from a 10-point deficit late in the second half, as they fell to Boise State 64-56.
Following the loss, Nevada now owns a record of 15-2 overall this season, including a mark of 2-1 in Mountain West play.
Despite putting together a superb defensive performance in which they held Boise State to just 41.2 percent shooting from the field, including 22.7 percent from behind the arc, the Pack struggled offensively throughout the evening, as they scored their second fewest points in a contest this season.
Nevada was +7 in turnover margin, and they scored 23 points off 11 Boise State turnovers, however, the Broncos dominated the glass, outrebounding the Pack 43-24.
Kenan Blackshear led the way for Nevada, scoring 15 points, dishing out three assists, pulling down three rebounds, and recording two steals.
Jarod Lucas chipped in 14 points for the Pack, while also matching a season-high by dishing out four assists.
Nick Davidson had another impressive performance for Nevada, scoring 12 points, pulling down five boards, and dishing out two assists. Davidson was also a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.
Senior forward Tre Coleman was impressive on both ends of the court for Nevada, as he scored eight points on a perfect 3-3 shooting from the field, in addition to grabbing a team-high six boards, dishing out three assists, and tallying three steals.
Nevada trailed for most of the contest, as they held a lead for seven minutes and 59 seconds, while in turn trailing for 25 minutes and 58 seconds.
First Half
Nevada fell behind early, as the Broncos opened up the scoring with a mid-range jumper at the 18:48 mark.
43 seconds later, Coleman finished a contested layup in the paint, tying the score at two points apiece.
Boise State retook the lead at the 16:15 mark; but, Lucas found a cutting Coleman who made another difficult shot in the lane to even up the score at 4-4 with 15:57 to go.
Just over a minute later, Nevada took their first lead of the contest, as Lucas made another stellar pass, this time finding Davidson open who made a layup while being fouled. Davidson went on to knock down the free throw, giving the Pack a 7-4 lead with 14:48 remaining in the first half.
The Pack extended their lead up to five points shortly after, as Davidson converted another layup opportunity off a pass from Coleman.
The two squads traded buckets, as Nevada held an 11-6 lead with 12:35 left in the first period.
Boise State used a 6-0 run over a 2:02 stretch to recapture the lead, as the Broncos took a 12-11 advantage over the Pack with just over 10 minutes until halftime.
Lucas responded for Nevada in the form of a mid-range pull up jumper to take a 13-12 lead over Boise State.
The back and forth play continued, as the Broncos made a layup to retake the lead, before Tyler Rolison drained a 3-pointer, giving Nevada a 16-4 edge over Boise State with 7:27 left in the first period.
The Broncos were able to even up the score once again just over a minute later; however, Lucas got a steal and went down and drilled a 3-pointer to put Nevada ahead 19-16 with 5:28 remaining in the half.
The Broncos hit back-to-back 3-pointers to take a 22-19 lead; but, the Pack responded with a 6-0 run of their own, gaining a 25-22 advantage over Boise State at the 2:38 mark.
Boise State outscored Nevada 8-2 over the remainder of the first period, as the Pack trailed the Broncos 30-27 at the break.
Second Half
K.J. Hymes opened up the scoring in the second half at the 18:44 mark, knocking down a pair of free throws to get the Pack within one point of the Broncos.
Boise State responded with a mid-range pull up jumper to extend their lead back up to three.
A lone free throw from Nevada cut the deficit down to two, however, the Broncos reeled off a 5-0 run to take a 37-30 lead over the Pack with 16:17 to go.
Boise State pushed their lead back up to eight points at the 14:48 mark, and continued to slowly expand their lead, as they took a 44-34 advantage with 12:41 to go.
The Broncos maintained a 10-point edge over Nevada with 9:37 to go; but, the Pack began to clamp down on defense and build momentum.
Blackshear made a pair of free throws to cut the deficit down to eight points at the 8:42 mark, and 41 seconds later Lucas drilled a step back jumper, as Nevada trailed 48-42 with just over eight minutes remaining.
Boise State pushed their lead back up to nine points with 5:54 to go; however, Nevada ripped off a 7-0 run to get within two points of the Broncos, as they trailed 52-50 with 3:40 left. Coleman sparked the run with an and-one layup, and Lucas and Blackshear scored back-to-back buckets, completing the 7-0 spurt.
Boise State made a lone free throw to take a three-point lead, and the Pack managed to get within two points of the Broncos two separate times over the final 2:20; however, that was as close as Nevada would get, as Boise State went on to earn the eight-point victory over the Pack.
