Colorado State defeats Nevada soccer in Mountain West Opener

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State used two first half goals to defeat Nevada soccer 2-1 Thursday in the Pack's Mountain West opener.

Fifth year midfielder Brooklyn Blake scored her first goal of the season while redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ally Larkin recorded five saves in the net.

After Colorado State opened the match by firing the first three shots, the Rams took the early lead with a goal in the ninth minute. The Rams followed that up with another goal 12 minutes later off a free kick to extend the lead by two.

Nevada, however, looked to turn the tables and respond to the adversity.

After firing a shot on goal that was saved by Colorado State, Blake found the back of the net that allowed the Pack to cut the deficit by one goal in the 25th minute. The Pack's final shot of the half went high that forced the Rams to remain ahead at halftime.

While holding the Colorado State offense at bay, Nevada looked for the equalizer goal by firing three shots on goal to open the second half. Colorado State, however, collected three saves during that stretch to maintain its lead. The Pack managed to collect two more shot opportunities in the final minutes, but Colorado State came up with the saves that allowed the Rams to clinch the win.

Nevada wraps up its first Mountain West road trip of the season Sunday, taking on Wyoming at 12 p.m.
