RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball has signed Rakiyah Jackson, a 5-10 guard from Seattle, for the 2023-24 season.
The three-time letterwinner from Garfield High School led the Bulldogs to conference, district and state championships during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
"Rakiyah is a great addition to our program and we're thrilled to have her for the upcoming season," head coach Amanda Levens said. "Rakiyah is an excellent student who is highly motivated academically and a proven winner who has impacted every team she has played on in a positive way."
Jackson helped Garfield High School to a 23-1 record as a senior, finishing the year winning the final 13 games. Her defense helped the Bulldogs hold their opponents to an average of under 50 points per game in the 3A state playoffs. She also earned a spot on the All-Metro second team.
Her defense was a major factor in Garfield's state championship clinching game the previous year. Despite battling food poisoning, Jackson made an enormous impact on defense to draw four charges through the second quarter to keep her team ahead. She blocked one of the opposition's final shots of the game to secure the one-point lead and the win.
At the AAU level, Jackson competed for Seattle's "The Way to Win" and was named to the Gold Profile in 2023. She helped her AAU team go 7-0 in the platinum 17U Division in Chicago in 2023.
Jackson becomes the eighth newcomer to join the program in 2023-24, being one of six freshmen to go with two Division I transfers.
Nevada goes on its Canadian Exhibition Tour Aug. 3-9, playing three exhibition games against Canadian schools. The Pack will also enjoy off-court fun, with the itinerary so far including a trip to Whistler, various parks and other fun-filled activities.
