Nevada signs John Jackson III

RENO, Nev. - Nevada Football announced the signing of wide receiver John Jackson III Tuesday.

Jackson III, who spent the previous five seasons (2018-22) at USC, will play his final season of eligibility (COVID bonus season) at Nevada in 2023. He earned his bachelor's degree in real estate development from USC in spring 2022.

He completed his master's degree in Entrepreneurship at USC this spring, and addressed his fellow student-athletes at the USC Student-Athlete Graduation earlier this month.

The Redondo Beach, Calif., native appeared in 40 games for the Trojans, making five catches for 42 yards. He appeared in 13 of USC's 14 contests in 2022, making a catch in the Cotton Bowl against Tulane.

Jackson III was a standout prep receiver at Serra High School in Gardena, Calif. As a senior in 2017, he caught 63 passes for 573 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and was named to the South Bay Daily Breeze All-Area Second Team.

In his debut season at Serra (2016), he caught 32 balls for 411 yards and six touchdowns. A dual-sport star at Serra, Jackson III was twice named All-CIF Southern Section and South Bay All-Area for his baseball exploits. As a junior in 2017, he batted .574 with 20 RBIs and posted a 1.75 ERA with 17 strikeouts to earn a spot on the All-CIF Southern Section Division 4 Team, and, the following season, landed on the Division 3 Team, hitting .449 with two homers and 16 RBIs at the plate, and a 4-3 record with a 2.91 ERA and 29 strikeouts.

Jackson III is the son of John Jackson Jr., a former standout USC receiver who played four seasons in the NFL for the Phoenix Cardinals (1990-92) and Chicago Bears (1996). Jackson Jr. ended his four-year USC career (1986-89) as the Trojans' all-time leading pass catcher with 163 receptions, and earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors in both football and baseball. Jackson III's grandfather, John Sr., spent six seasons (1986-91) on the USC staff as offensive coordinator and running backs coach.
