ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Neither Nevada nor New Mexico could get on the scoreboard into the sixth inning of Sunday's series finale in Albuquerque, but the Lobos broke the stalemate with four in the bottom half and went on to a 7-3 victory.
Wolf Pack starter
Jacob Biesterfeld had struck out five and went a season-high 5.2 innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth. Two walks put two on with two out for the Lobos, and, with
Dillon Holliday coming on in relief, New Mexico's Devon Dixon grounded an RBI double down the line past third base then Chase Weissenborn cleared the bases with his own double to right-center.
The Pack (20-30, 10-17 MW) nearly answered in the seventh.
Dawson Martin led off with a walk, and, with two away,
Mason Hirata singled to put runners at the corners. But reliever Brian McBroom came on for the Lobos and got
Nolan Wilson to fly out.
The Lobos (26-21, 13-14 MW) stretched the lead in the bottom half on back-to-back home runs from Justin Olson and Konner Kinkade, Olson's being of the two-run variety.
The Pack would put three on the board in the eighth, with
Henry Strmecki lining a two-run homer to left-center.
New Mexico starter Jaren Jackson picked up his third win, allowing just four hits over 6.2 innings and striking out five. Biesterfeld fell to 2-2 on the year with the loss.
Nevada will close the season next Thursday-Saturday with three at San José State.
