SAN JOSE - The Nevada offense struggled to muster much in Thursday night's series opener at San José State, managing just three hits in the 7-1 loss to the Spartans.

Jonathan Clark and Jack White combined to strike out 15 Nevada batters, with nine coming from Clark as he picked up his third win with a two-hit, seven-inning outing. White worked the final two innings, striking out six while giving up just one hit.

Nevada starter Kade Morris struck out seven, for his part. Morris and Clark matched zeroes on the board until San José State's Nik Trapani hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third for the Spartans' first hit.

Morris regained his stride, shutting down the Spartans through the sixth, before exiting the contest after a one-out single in the seventh from James Shimashita. San José State pounced on Wolf Pack reliever Dorsey Chatham, with Robert Hamchuk getting aboard by being hit by a pitch, and Theo Hardy following with an RBI single to score Shimashita. Charles McAdoo delivered the big shot, hitting a three-run homer to left, making it 6-0 Spartans.

Morris would fall to 4-7 for the season, being charged with three runs on just three hits.

San José State (25-24, 16-11 MW) added a run in the bottom of the eighth, before the Pack (20-31, 10-18 MW) broke the shutout on Jackson Waller's pinch-hit RBI double, plating Dawson Martin.

First pitch for Friday's second game of the series is set for 6:05 p.m.
