SAN DIEGO - Dawson Martin had a career day, going 4-for-4 at the plate, while
Jackson Waller and
Jesse Pierce each had three hits to lift Nevada to a 10-4 victory in Sunday's series finale at San Diego State.
Martin hit one of the Pack's two solo homers on the day, then added a ninth-inning RBI single to keep Nevada (16-21, 7-13 MW) out in front for much of the contest. He also scored the run that put the Pack ahead for good in the fourth, coming across on
Mason Hirata's squeeze bunt.
Waller helped the Pack begin to pull away, delivering a two-run single in the team's three-run fifth which made it a five-run game at 7-2.
Pierce got things started in the first with his two-out, RBI double to get the Pack on the board, then adding a solo shot in the third that tied things up at 2-2.
Nevada took the lead for good in the fourth, with Waller scoring on
Nolan Wilson's triple after Hirata's bunt got Martin across. The two-run frame made it 4-2, and the Pack never looked back.
Jason Doktorczyk made his first Sunday start of the season, going six strong and allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out five. The win brought his record to 3-2.
San Diego State (16-20, 10-6 MW) got an RBi double from Cole Carrigg in the first before capitalizing on a Wolf Pack error in the second to take a 2-1 lead.
But the Pack stayed on top of Aztec starter Omar Serrano, chasing him with two outs in the fourth, and sending Serrano to his fourth loss of the season. Serrano gave up four runs on six hits, then the Pack went for six more runs against five Aztec relievers the rest of the way.
Nevada returns to Reno to begin its final home stand of the campaign. The nine-game stretch begins Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Sacramento State, and continues with four games at Peccole Park next weekend—two each against Grand Canyon and Long Beach State.
