SAN DIEGO - Nevada's rally came up short Saturday night, as the Wolf Pack dropped its series at San Diego State with a 4-3 loss.
Henry Strmecki hit a two-run homer in the seventh to pull the Pack within a run at 4-3, but the San Diego State bullpen shut the door on any comeback hopes. Kelena Sauer came on in the ninth and struck out two to finish the contest.
Errors cost the Wolf Pack (15-21, 6-13 MW) Saturday. Nevada's defense committed three errors in the contest, with two errors in the second inning contributing to San Diego State taking a 2-0 lead.
Peyton Stumbo struck out five over six innings of work, and allowed just two earned runs despite the second-inning errors.
But Aztec starter Chris Canada struck out eight and allowed just three runs over six innings to claim his second win.
San Diego State (16-19, 10-5 MW) took a 4-0 lead before the Pack answered.
Matt Clayton hit a solo homer to highlight his 2-for-3 night, while Strmecki's two-run homer made it 4-3.
The teams will conclude the series Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
