RENO, Nev. - Nevada's bullpen shined for the second day in a row, guiding the Wolf Pack to its first Mountain West series victory in Sunday's 6-3 win over Air Force.
Reliever
Morgan White took over with one out in the fourth, two runners on, and the Wolf Pack clinging to a 4-3 lead. He struck out Sam Kulasingam for the inning's second out, then after Jay Thomason reached on an error, got Jake Greiving to fly to left to leave the bases loaded and the Pack lead intact.
Nevada (16-19, 6-11 MW) bounced back from an early 2-0 deficit, scoring three times in the second with
Nolan Wilson's two-run single highlighting the frame. After Air Force evened things in the top of the third, the Pack took the lead for good on
Taylor Holder's two-out RBI triple which plated
Henry Strmecki in the bottom half.
Strmecki provided the Pack's final two runs with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth. Stremecki and Holder led the Pack with two hits apiece on the day.
That hit would cap the day's scoring for both teams, as each bullpen took over from there. White picked up his second win of the season, going 3.2 innings and striking out five, before
Dorsey Chatham worked a 1-2-3 eighth and
Kolby Kmetko set the Falcons down in order in the ninth for his sixth save.
For Air Force (16-21, 9-9 MW), Sawyer Hawks struck out eight and allowed no hits over the final three innings. Falcon starter Dylan Rogers fell to 2-5 on the year, giving up six runs (three earned) on eight hits.
The Pack's series win pulled it within 2.5 games of fourth place and the final spot at the Mountain West Championship. Nevada will visit Santa Clara Tuesday for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest before heading south for a three-game conference series at San Diego State.
