Nevada’s season ends in Mountain West Championships Quarterfinals

LAS VEGAS - Nevada women's basketball was defeated by No. 1 seed UNLV 84-47 on Monday in the Mountain West Championships Quarterfinals.

Graduate student forward Megan Ormiston led Nevada with 18 points in her final game in a Wolf Pack uniform. Junior forward Lexie Givens added 16 points and six rebounds, going 6-for-7 from the floor.

Ormiston helped Nevada get off to an explosive start by scoring the opening basket in the Pack's first possession. Nevada followed that up with six unanswered points to stretch its lead 8-2 in the first quarter and remained ahead halfway through the first quarter.

UNLV, however, made five of its first seven 3-pointers that gave the Lady Rebels the lead in the opening period. A basket by freshman Kennedy Lee made it a one possession game with just over one minute to play in the first quarter, but two made baskets from UNLV's Kiara Jackson allowed the Rebels to lead 24-17.

A quick 6-0 scoring run to open the second period allowed UNLV to stretch its lead to double figures, moving ahead by 20 with 3:37 left in the first half. Following a second chance basket by Ormiston, UNLV quickly responded by knocking down a jump shot to move ahead 47-23 heading into halftime.

The Lady Rebels continued their momentum in the third quarter, going up by 30 points as the third period came to a close. UNLV finished the game on a 21-12 scoring run and never relinquished their lead after the first quarter.
