Benn clinches, leads Nevada to 4-2 win over Utah State

RENO, Nev. – Junior Satchel Benn helped lead Nevada to a 4-2 win over the Utah State Aggies after clinching the final point for the Pack in singles, bringing the squad to 8-5 on the season, 2-0 in Mountain West play, undefeated at home, and winning their seventh match in a row.
 
Nevada took the early 1-0 lead after securing wins at Nos. 2 and 3. At No. 3, Matheo Coupu and Loriz Zisswiller defeated Utah State's Jack Ninteman and Roko Savin 6-3, while at No. 2, Youssef Kadiri Hassani teamed with Sasha Nicolau to take the Aggies' Stijn Paardekooper and Nuno Pinheiro 6-3 heading into singles action.
 
After quickly falling to the Pack in doubles, the Aggies took charge right away in singles, securing the first win and point for Utah State at No. 4. Roko Savin earned a straight-sets victory over Nevada's Youssef Kadiri Hassani 6-4, 6-2 to tie the score up 1-1. The Pack came firing back at Nos. 3 and 6, Matheo Coupu and Loris Zisswiller earning victories over their Utah State counterparts. Coupu defeated Stijn Paardekooper 6-4, 7-5, while Zisswiller battled it out against Nuno Pinheiro, winning the first set 6-3 and securing the tiebreaker over Pinheiro 7-6 (3), bringing the score to 3-1.
 
Utah State once again continued their momentum to bring the Aggies within one after Bodin Zarkovic defeated Pedro Liborio 6-4, 7-6 (2) at No. 2. With two matches continuing to duel it out, it would be Satchel Benn at No. 5 to clinch the victory for the Pack for the second time this season. Benn bounced back after falling in the first set to Sergi Mico Fenollar 2-6, going on to take the second 7-6 (2), and clinch the match with his 6-2 third set win.
 
The Pack (8-5, 2-0 will continue the season next Saturday as they travel to Albuquerque, taking on their third Mountain West opponent of the year, New Mexico. The Lobos (9-4, 0-0 MW) and the Pack will play at 11:00 a.m. PST.
