RENO, Nev. - Nevada Baseball comes to the final series of its six-game road stretch, facing Oregon State in non-conference action. The two-game set against the Beavers begins Tuesday night at 5:35 p.m., and concludes with a 5:35 p.m. first pitch Wednesday in Corvallis.
The Pack (8-7) is coming off of a 2-2 week in which it defeated USC in midweek play before dropping two of three in its first Mountain West series of the season, at Fresno State.
Both games at Oregon State will be broadcast locally in Reno on KHIT 94.1 FM/1450 AM, and online through The Varsity Network app, with Jon Warren on the call. The whole series will be streamed on the Mountain West Network and Mountain West app.
ABOUT OREGON STATE
Oregon State (11-4), like Nevada, is coming off of a 2-2 week in which it dropped two of three in a weekend conference series.
The Beavers opened things with a midweek victory over San Diego, and took the opener of its home series against Washington State. But, the Cougars came back in the final two games of the series to take it.
Micah McDowell leads the Beaver offense, batting a team-high .455 and leading the team in hits (23) and runs scored (14). Gavin Turley leads the team in home runs (five) and RBIs (15).
Rhett Larson (1-0, 3.86) gets the ball for the Beavers in the first game of the series against Nevada, with Wednesday's starter TBD.
LAST TIME OUT
Nevada opened Mountain West play by dropping two of three at Fresno State over the weekend. The Pack and Bulldogs split Saturday's series-opening doubleheader before the Nevada bats were stifled in a 2-0 loss in Sunday's rubber game.
The series featured strong pitching performances on both sides. Nevada's 5-2 win in Saturday's nightcap was highlighted by
Jason Doktorczyk going 6.1 scoreless inning and striking out seven Bulldog batters. In Sunday's finale, Pack starter
Casey Burfield was unfortunate to have to take the loss, as he followed up last weekend's Mountain West Pitcher of the Week performance with another solid outing, allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out a career-high nine batters.
Earlier in the week, the Wolf Pack posted its biggest win of the season, extending its season-best winning streak to four with a 3-2 win at USC.
The Wolf Pack pitchers were nails in the contest, led by starter
Peyton Stumbo. Stumbo evened his season record at 1-1, going six innings over which he allowed just two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Four relievers combined to go the final three innings, with
Kolby Kmetko picking up his third save with a scoreless ninth. Overall, the Pack hurlers held USC to just three hits, and the Trojans were hitless over the final 6.1 innings.
