Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nevada holds on to defeat Utah State

LOGAN, Utah - Nevada women's basketball held off a monstrous comeback from Utah State and defeated the Aggies 68-63 on Saturday at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Sophomore guard Audrey Roden led Nevada with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Junior guard Victoria Davis tallied 18 points while sophomore forward Hannah Hartley played a career-high 18 minutes to go with her first two points of the season and a career-high three rebounds.

The win was Nevada's first win in Logan Utah, since Jan. 11, 2014. Nevada played without redshirt junior Alyssa Jimenez and freshman Kennedy Lee on Saturday.

Nevada fed off junior guard Tiffany Siu, who made her first career start, and jumped off to an 11-2 scoring run following a pair of 3-pointers by Roden. The Pack jumped out to a double-digit lead after Davis capitalized off a Utah State turnover and stretched their lead 25-7 to end the opening period.

Building off their first quarter momentum, Nevada continued to scorch the nets in the second period. A layup from Roden expanded the Nevada lead to 20 points, who followed that score up with another basket after a Hartley free throw. Two free throws from Roden and a layup by junior forward Lexie Givens with one minute left to play in the half allowed Nevada to take a 44-17 lead going into the locker room.

The Pack continued to maintain a comfortable 20-point lead throughout the third period, but Utah State knocked down a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left in the quarter to cut Nevada's lead to 19 points. Hartley knocked down another free throw to make it a 13-point advantage in the fourth quarter before Utah State surged to a 10-0 scoring run to make it a one possession game with 1:16 left.

Free throws from Davis moved the Pack's lead to five points with just over one minute to play, with Utah State hitting a second chance layup with 39 seconds left to make it a one poession game. Utah State forced a Nevada turnover to have a chance to tie the game, but Nevada forced a missed layup and Davis sunk her final three free throws to capture the road win.

Nevada returns to Reno for a two game homestand, starting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against San Diego State for Pink Night/Cancer Awareness.
