LOGAN, Utah – After a phenomenal first half in which they shot 62.1 percent from the field and 70 percent from behind the arc to build a 47-32 halftime advantage, the Nevada Men's Basketball team went cold over the final 20 minutes, as they fell on the road to Utah State by a final score of 75-66.
Following the loss, Nevada now owns an overall record of 20-7 this season, including a mark of 10-4 in Mountain West play.
Will Baker scored a game-high 25 points, including dropping an incredible 22 points in the first 4:57 of the game on 7-7 shooting from the field and 6-6 from behind the arc. The six 3-pointers set a new career-high for the redshirt junior.
Freshman Darrion Williams scored nine points on an efficient 4-7 shooting from the field, while also pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. The 11 boards marked the ninth time this season that Williams has surpassed double digit rebounds in a game, and it was also the 14th time that this season that he has led the Pack in rebounding.
Kenan Blackshear scored 14 points on 4-11 shooting from the field, in addition to dishing out six assists in the contest.
Junior forward Tre Coleman recorded five assists and a team-high two steals throughout the game.
Nevada was nothing short of exceptional on the offensive end of the floor the first half of the game, as they knocked down 18 of 29 shots from the field, while draining seven of 10 shots from behind the arc.
In what was truly a tale of two halves, the Pack's offense faltered in the second period, as they shot just 19.2 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from behind the arc, and were outscored by 24 points.
First Half
Will Baker came out on fire for Nevada, scoring 22 straight points to begin the game, while drilling six consecutive 3-pointers and seven consecutive shots in total, propelling the Pack to a 22-4 lead less than five minutes into the game.
Utah State scored five straight points to cut the lead to 13; but, the Pack responded, as Jarod Lucas, Tyler Powell, Williams, and Daniel Foster scored four consecutive buckets to give Nevada a 30-9 lead with 10:39 remaining until halftime.
Nevada maintained at least a 19-point advantage over the next three and a half minutes before the Aggies reeled off a 7-0 run to trim Nevada's lead down to 11 with just under four minutes to go in the first half.
After the two squads traded buckets, Williams splashed a 3-pointer to push the Pack's lead up to 14 at the 2:58 mark.
Utah State cut the lead back down to 12; however, Blackshear hit a free throw and Williams drained a mid-range jumper to give Nevada a 45-30 lead with 1:21 left in the first period.
The Aggies scored on the other end; but, on the final play of the first half, Blackshear stared down his defender and drained a pull-up jump shot over him to end the period, as Nevada took a 47-32 lead into the break.
Second Half
Utah State opened up the second period on a 10-0 run to cut the Pack's lead to just five points with 16:59 to go, marking the closest the game had been since Nevada led 6-2 less than a minute and a half into the contest.
Utah State continued to edge closer and closer, eventually tying the game at the 10:20 mark for the first time since it was 0-0, as the two squads were deadlocked at 57 points apiece.
Utah State went on to outscore Nevada 18-9 over the remainder of the contest, as the Pack struggled mightily on the offensive end of the floor and failed to convert critical opportunities down the stretch, going on to succumb to the Aggies by a final score of 66-75.
