Nevada to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports against New Mexico Saturday

RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports on Saturday against New Mexico at 1 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center.

Nevada will highlight the transformational power of girls' participation in sports, bringing attention to the achievements of female athletes and overcoming the obstacles that face girls and women in sports. In addition to the usual family-friendly activities at Nevada women's basketball games, Nevada's swim & dive, soccer and volleyball teams will also be in attendance on Saturday.

Fans are encouraged to buy tickets online in advance starting at just $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Tickets will be available on site starting at just $13 for adults and $8 for youth.

Along with celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports, fans are invited to stick around Lawlor Events Center for Senior Day following the game. Nevada women's basketball will honor student-athletes Megan Ormiston, Alyssa Jimenez and manager Jace Harmon postgame with a special Senior Day recognition.

Doors to Lawlor Events Center open to the public at 11 a.m. on Saturday and tipoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday's game will also be available to watch online on the Mountain West Network and available on the radio on KPLY 630 AM with Larry Burnett on the call.

On Feb. 9 against San Diego State, Nevada was a perfect 17-for-17 from the free throw line as a team. This was the first time since Feb. 8, 2020 that the Pack made all of their free throws in 10 or more attempts. Junior guard Alyssa Jimenez led the charge against San Diego State by knocking down all nine of her free throw attempts, a career-best.

The Pack currently lead the Mountain West in offensive rebounds per game with a 12.1 mark. Nevada has outrebounded its opponents 13 times this season and has had a player record double-digit rebounds 13 times.

Sophomore forward Hannah Hartley was officially put on scholarship on Nov. 4. After playing a career-high 18 minutes on Feb. 4 to help Nevada to a huge win at Utah State, the Reno native came up with a career-high four rebounds in just nine minutes of playing time on Feb. 9 against San Diego State. She is a third-generation Nevada student as her grandmother, parents, two aunts and an uncle all graduated from Nevada.

SCOUTING NEW MEXICO
After defeating Nevada 88-58 on Jan. 11 at The Pit earlier this season, New Mexico is looking to stay ahead of the Pack in the Mountain West standings. The Lobos are currently in seventh place and hold a one-game advantage over Nevada in the standings.

Shaiquel McGruder leads New Mexico with 13.6 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game. Sisters LaTascya and LaTora Duff also add production, with LaTascya scoring 12.6 points per game while LaTora pours in 10.2 points per game.
