Nevada wins the day against North Dakota

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Nevada softball started the season with a 10-1 win against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks Friday afternoon.

Carley Brown led the Pack in the circle for five innings before Blake Craft came into relief. Brown gave up four hits, and one run, while striking out five Fighting Hawks players.

Gabby Herrera led the team offense after going 4-4 on the plate. Herrera had four hits, one RBI, two stolen bases, and scored four times.

Haylee Engelbrecht made her debut as a member of the Pack as she registered one hit, two runs, and three RBI.

Chelie Senini, Alycia Coats, Andrea Lira, Charli Hawkins, Maya Larsen, Hayle Painter, and Maddison Clark all tallied one hit for the Pack.

Nevada's offense was perfect on the bases, with nine stolen bases leading to a new school record for most stolen bases in a single game.

How it happened:

Senini led the game with a single and stole second, putting the Pack in scoring position.

Herrera hit a double to the right center, which led Senini to run across home plate to put one run up on the scoreboard for the Pack. Hawkins came out with a double to left center that scored Herrera and Engelbrecht to give the Pack a 3-0 lead.

On the top of the third, the Pack put up one more run as Engelbrecht singled up the middle to score Herrera, who led off the inning with a hit.

The Fighting Hawks put one on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Pack responded with a sac fly by Engelbreicht in the top of the fifth.

For the final inning, the Pack offense took control, scoring five runs on six hits and five RBI. Larsen led the inning off with a pinch-hit double, followed by a single by Painter. Painter stole second base and set the stage for Clark, who hit an RBI single through the right side. The inning continued with two ground outs that led to two Wolf Pack runs. Later in the inning, Coats an RBI double down the left line. Freshman, Engelbrecht stepped in a towering double off the wall to score the tenth run for the Pack.

Craft came in to close the game in the bottom of the sixth. The junior struck out two Fighting Hawks batters and earned the final out to secure the first win for the Pack with a 10-1 score.

Up Next:

The Pack will come back to the Bob Janssen field for a doubleheader against UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly. The game against the Gauchos is set for 10 a.m. followed by the matchup against the Mustangs at 3 p.m.
