Blackshear Leads Nevada to Seventh Consecutive Victory

RENO, Nev. - Kenan Blackshear scored a game-high 25 points, fueling the Nevada Men's Basketball team to an 80-68 victory over UC Davis Wednesday evening, as the Pack remained undefeated this season and improved to 7-0.

Following the victory, Nevada is one of 13 remaining undefeated teams in the country.

The Pack did an exceptional job of getting to the free throw line, as they made 32 free throws on a season-high 44 attempts, while UC Davis made just 10-14 attempts.

Nevada was also impressive on the glass, outrebounding the Aggies, 36-30. The Pack was particularly impressive on the offensive glass, as they pulled down 12 offensive boards, matching the most that they have recorded in a game this season.

Nevada's bench was tremendous in the game, scoring 20 points compared to just nine points from the UC Davis bench.

Blackshear was outstanding for Nevada, scoring 25 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Blackshear was 10-18 from the field in the contest, and the fifth-year senior pulled down four rebounds, dished out three assists, and tallied one block. Blackshear was an incredible 7-8 shooting in the second half alone, and was sensational down the stretch for Nevada, scoring 14 points over the final 10 minutes to propel the Pack to the 12-point victory.

Nick Davidson also reached double figures in scoring for Nevada, putting up 11 points on 3-6 shooting from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line, in addition to pulling down a game-high eight rebounds and tallying one block in the contest. The redshirt-sophomore recorded a plus/minus of +14 in 26 minutes of action. Davidson is a perfect 22-22 from the free throw line through seven games this season.

Hunter McIntosh was immaculate off the bench for the Pack, scoring 13 points on 3-5 shooting from the field, including 3-4 from behind the arc. McIntosh also recorded two steals, and he finished the contest with an incredible plus/minus of +30 in just 25 minutes of game time.

Jarod Lucas maintained his streak of reaching double figures in scoring in every game this season, putting up 13 points in the contest. Lucas also pulled down five rebounds throughout the game.

K.J. Hymes chipped in eight points on 3-4 shooting from the field in 20 minutes of action for the Pack.

Nevada finished the contest with a 42.3 percent clip from the field (22-52), 40 percent mark from behind the arc (4-10), and a 72.7 percent clip from the free throw line (32-44).

The Pack was particularly impressive in the second period, elevating those numbers to 52.2 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from behind the arc, and 80 percent at the free throw line on their way to a 51-point second half.

Facing one of the premier teams in the country in forcing turnovers, Nevada once again did an exceptional job of taking care of the ball, as they finished the contest with just 10 total turnovers, while in turn forcing UC Davis into 20 turnovers throughout the game.

First Half

Having trailed for just three minutes and 32 seconds of game time this season entering Wednesday night's contest, the Pack fell behind early, as UC Davis drained a 3-pointer on their first possession to take a quick 3-0 lead over Nevada.

K.J. Hymes finished a tough driving layup to get the Pack on the board on their next possession, as they trailed the Aggies 3-2 exactly one minute into the game.

Nevada continued to trail UC Davis until McIntosh's first 3-pointer of the game tied up the contest at 11 points apiece with 14:03 remaining until halftime.

The Aggies regained the lead 24 seconds later, however, Blackshear hit a challenging step back jumper at the 12:44 mark to even up the score at 13-13.

32 seconds later, the Pack took their first lead of the game, as Davidson knocked down two free throws to give Nevada a 17-15 advantage with 12:12 left in the first period.

UC Davis responded with an 8-0 run over a 1:46 second stretch, as they built a 23-17 advantage over Nevada with 6:52 remaining in the first half. Lucas made a lone free throw at the 4:41 mark; but, UC Davis made consecutive free throws to extend their lead to seven points with 4:24 left until halftime, marking their largest lead of the contest.

Nevada responded in a massive way, outscoring the Aggies 11-2 over the final 3:30 of the first period, highlighted by a vicious two-handed slam from Jeriah Coleman on the final play of the half, as the Pack took a 29-27 advantage into the break.

Second Half

UC Davis scored the first bucket up the second half at the 18:21 mark to even up the game once again, however, Blackshear finished a driving layup while being fouled on the other end, and the fifth-year senior converted the and-one opportunity, as Nevada took a three-point lead with 18:03 left in the game.

UC Davis ripped off an 8-1 run over the next 2:21, taking a 37-33 lead over the Pack with 16:17 remaining in the contest.

Daniel Foster drilled a 3-pointer to trim the Aggies' lead down to just one and Tre Coleman made a lone free throw to even up the game at 37-37 with 15:23 to go.

Nevada regained the lead less than two minutes later, as McIntosh drained his second 3-pointer of the game to put the Pack up 42-41 at the 13:49 mark.

UC Davis quickly retook the lead and maintained it for the next four minutes; but, Blackshear began to find his rhythm offensively and take complete control of the game, beginning with a turnaround jumper outside the paint that gave Nevada a 50-49 lead that they would never relinquish at the 9:47 mark.

Hymes threw down a wide-open dunk 36 seconds later to put the Pack up three points, and McIntosh followed by connecting on his third 3-pointer of the night to give Nevada a 55-49 advantage with 8:53 remaining.

Blackshear then proceeded to take over the game possession by possession, scoring 12 of the final 25 points for Nevada down the stretch, and the Pack hit 10-10 shots at the free throw line over the final six minutes, as they went on to earn the 12-point victory over UC Davis and improve to 7-0.
