RENO, Nev. - Jarod Lucas, Hunter McIntosh, and K.J. Hymes combined for 54 points, and the Nevada Men's Basketball team dominated Fresno Pacific on their way to a 92-59 victory, as they matched a program record with their 13th victory in the non-conference portion of the schedule.
With the win, Nevada improved to 13-1 on the season, including a perfect mark of 8-0 at Lawlor Events Center. The 13 victories are tied for the most wins prior to entering conference play all-time by a Wolf Pack team. Nevada is also currently one of three teams in the country with 13 victories this season.
The Pack dominated the game in all facets, as they outrebounded Fresno Pacific (35-27), outscored the Sunbirds in the paint (58-12), won the turnover battle (+14), and Nevada's bench outscored Fresno Pacific's bench, 36-9.
Nevada shot an exceptional 55.2 percent from the field (37-67), and the Pack recorded 12 steals throughout the contest.
Lucas led the way for the Pack, scoring a team-high 22 points in just 22 minutes on 8-16 shooting from the field, including 3-7 from behind the arc and a perfect 3-3 at the free throw line. Lucas' stellar performance was the latest in what has been a sensational four-game stretch for the fifth-year senior, as he is averaging 22.3 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc over the Pack's past four contests.
McIntosh finished second on the team in scoring, as he poured in 18 points on a highly efficient 7-11 shooting from the field, including 4-6 from behind the arc. The 18 points from McIntosh marked the most points that he has scored with the Wolf Pack, and the graduate student also grabbed three boards and recorded two steals.
K.J. Hymes had one his best performances of the season in the victory, scoring a season-high 14 points in just 12 minutes on 5-6 shooting from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Hymes also pulled down four rebounds in the game.
In his debut at Lawlor Events Center after returning from injury on the Pack's trip to Hawaii, Tylan Pope was phenomenal off the bench for the Pack, scoring nine points on 4-7 shooting, in addition to grabbing four rebounds.
Fifth-year senior point guard Kenan Blackshear had an impressive all-around performance for Nevada, scoring seven points, dishing out a game-high seven assists, pulling down a team-high five rebounds, and tallying two steals. Blackshear completed the contest with a game-high plus/minus of +38 in 27 minutes of playing time.
Tre Coleman was the sixth Wolf Pack player to score seven or more points, chipping in eight points on 4-5 shooting, while also pulling down four rebounds and recording one steal in the game.
Senior guard Daniel Foster maintained his recent stretch of exceptional play for Nevada, scoring five points, pulling down four rebounds, dishing out four assists, and tallying two steals, as the senior put together another tremendous all-around performance.
Nevada held a lead for 39 minutes and 21 seconds throughout the contest, and led by as much as 44 points against an undermatched Fresno Pacific squad.
First Half
Nevada was able to build a quick 10-point advantage over the Sunbirds, as Lucas knocked down two early 3-pointers, and Nevada sprinted out to a 13-3 lead at the 14:52 mark after a Blackshear layup.
Fresno Pacific battled back, managing to trim the Pack's lead down to five points with 11:01 remaining in the first period, as Nevada held a 17-12 advantage nine minutes into the contest.
The Pack responded with a massive 23-2 run over the next 7:37, expanding their lead all the way up to 26 points, as they took a 40-14 advantage over the Sunbirds with just under 3:30 to go until halftime.
The two squads traded buckets over the remainder of the first half, with Nevada taking a 45-20 lead into halftime.
Lucas led all scorers with 10 points at the half, and Nevada shot 48.5 percent from the field while limiting the Sunbirds to 30.4 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes of action.
Second Half
Hymes opened up the second half scoring with a ferocious two-handed slam on the Pack's first offensive possession, as they pushed their lead up to 27 points.
35 seconds later, Lucas finished a difficult layup through contact, drawing a foul on the shot attempt and going on to make the free throw, converting the and-one opportunity and giving Nevada a 30-point lead with just over 19 minutes left in the game.
Nevada continued to pour it on, extending their lead up to 37 over the next nine minutes of play, as the Pack held a 71-34 advantage over the Sunbirds with 9:57 to go.
Just over four minutes later, Jazz Gardner made a layup to give Nevada a 44-point lead, their largest of the contest, with 5:45 remaining in the contest.
Fresno Pacific scored 22 points over the final 5:20, however, the Pack cruised their way to the 33-point win to earn their 13th victory of the season.
