Nevada Remains Undefeated at Home; Defeats Weber State 72-55

RENO, Nev. - All five starters reached double figures in scoring, and the Nevada Men's Basketball team shot a superb 57.1 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from behind the arc, as they defeated Weber State 72-55 to remain undefeated at Lawlor Events Center this season.

Following the victory, Nevada improved to 8-1 overall on the season, including a perfect mark of 7-0 on their home court.

Nevada was exceptional on offense against one of the statistically best defensive teams in the country. The 72 points scored by the Pack marked the most that Weber State has allowed in a game this season, and Nevada's clip of 57.1 percent from the field was the highest percentage that the Wildcats have allowed this year.

The Pack tallied 21 assists on 28 field goals, and the team outscored Weber State in the paint, 28-22.

Kenan Blackshear scored a team-high 15 points on 6-11 shooting from the field, while also pulling down five rebounds, dishing out four assists, matching a career-high with two blocks, and tallying one steal.

Jarod Lucas poured in 13 points on an efficient 5-9 shooting from the field, including 3-5 from behind the arc. Lucas also pulled down two rebounds and dished out two assists. The fifth-year senior finished the contest with a game-high plus/minus of +28 in 33 minutes of action.

Nick Davidson scored 11 points, pulled down five rebounds, recorded three assists, and matched a career-high with three blocks. Davidson was 4-7 from the field, including 1-3 from behind the arc.

K.J. Hymes had one his best performances of the season, scoring 10 points on a perfect 4-4 shooting from the field, while also pulling down three rebounds. Hymes earned a plus/minus of +9 in just over 15 minutes of playing time.

Tre Coleman was the fifth Pack player to reach double figures in scoring, putting up 10 points on 4-8 shooting from the field. Coleman also dished out four assists and recorded a game-high four steals throughout the contest.

Freshman guard Tyler Rolison was outstanding off the bench for the Pack, scoring five points, dishing out a career-high five assists, and pulling down three rebounds.

Hunter McIntosh also had an impressive outing off the bench for Nevada, draining 2-3 shots from behind the arc, as the graduate student provided a significant offensive burst for the Pack.

Nevada's defense put on yet another impressive performance, as they limited Weber State to their second fewest points scored in a game this season, while holding the Wildcats to just 40.4 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc.

Nevada led for 35 minutes and 55 seconds throughout the contest, while in turn only trailing for one minute and 44 seconds.

First Half

Hymes scored the first points of the contest, knocking down 1-2 free throws after getting fouled on the Pack's first possession; however, after two minutes and seven seconds of scoreless play, Weber State drained a 3-pointer to take a 3-1 advantage at the 17:38 mark.

Nevada responded with a quick 8-2 run to build a 9-5 advantage over the Wildcats with 13:30 remaining in the first half.

Weber State battled back, and the two squads went back-and-forth over the next seven minutes, finding themselves deadlocked at 17-17 with 6:08 left in the first period.

After Coleman missed a corner 3-pointer, Hymes pulled down a tough offensive rebound and proceeded to drive right by his defender and throw down a thunderous two-handed slam. Hymes then drew an offensive foul on defense, and Blackshear buried a 3-pointer on the other end, as Nevada took a 22-17 lead with 4:42 remaining until halftime.

After another defensive stop, Coleman finished a layup at the rim off a dime of a pass from Blackshear, extending Nevada's lead to 24-17. A lone free throw from Davidson put the Pack up 25-17 at the 3:27 mark; and, just over a minute later, Hymes had another massive dunk, completing a 10-0 run for Nevada.

The Pack took a 29-22 lead into the halftime break after shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 30 percent from behind the arc, while limiting Weber State to 34.6 percent shooting from the field over the first 20 minutes of the game.

Second Half

Nevada scored the first three points of the second half, pushing their lead back up to 10, as they held a 32-22 advantage with 18:42 left in the game.

Just under four minutes later, the Wildcats managed to get within five points of the Pack , trimming Nevada's advantage down to 39-34 at the 14:34 mark; but, the Pack took full control of the game after Weber State made a wide-open dunk to cut it within five.

31 seconds later, Davidson splashed an extremely difficult contested turnaround jumper, sparking a huge run for the Pack.

Just under a minute after Davidson hit the turnaround shot, Rolison found him open in the paint for an easy lay, pushing Nevada's lead up to nine, as they held a 43-34 advantage.

After getting a defensive stop, Lucas began to heat up, as he drilled a triple off another beautiful pass from Rolison, giving Nevada a 12-point lead, the team's largest of the game at that time.

Less than a minute later, Lucas knocked down another 3-pointer off another Rolison assist, putting Nevada up 49-34 with 11:29 to go.

McIntosh got in on the action soon after, hitting his first 3-pointer of the night at the 10:17 mark, which pushed Nevada's lead up to 18 points and completed a 13-0 Wolf Pack run over a four minute and 30 second period.

The Pack extended their lead up to as much as 21 points, cruising over the final 10 minutes of the game and going on to earn the 72-55 victory, bouncing back from their first loss of the season in tremendous fashion.
