Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Roden’s double-double leads Nevada women’s basketball to third straight win

RENO, Nev. - Led by junior guard Audrey Roden's double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, Nevada women's basketball won its third consecutive game with a 76-63 victory over San Diego at Lawlor Events Center Wednesday.

Roden picked up her second career double-double and registered her second 20-point game of the season while matching a career-high six steals. Senior forward Lexie Givens added 15 points and six rebounds to go with a pair of blocks and steals. Fifth year forward Claire Jacobs scored 13 points and grabbed a season-high seven rebounds.

Beginning the game on a 6-0 scoring run, Nevada continued to put the pressure on the Toreros thanks to three consecutive buckets from Roden to stay ahead by six. The West Linn, Oregon, native helped Nevada close out the quarter with a bang, dishing it out to junior guard Kaylee Borden for the buzzer beater 3-pointer to end the quarter.

A layup by Givens to open the second quarter allowed the Pack to go up by nine, but San Diego used a 5-0 scoring run and a jumper with just over three minutes left in the first half to make it a one possession game. The Toreros used a layup and converted a free throw that allowed San Diego to take its first lead of the game with 43 seconds left in the first half.

Nevada, however, quickly regained the lead off a fastbreak layup from Roden that gave the Pack the 28-27 advantage after the first 20 minutes.

San Diego converted off its first two possessions to take the lead in the third quarter, but baskets from Givens and sophomore forward Kennedy Lee allowed Nevada to regain control. A pair of jumpers by San Diego's Veronica Sheffey allowed the Toreros to go out in front 39-37 with four minutes to play in the third quarter, but Nevada continued to stay the course to swing the advantage once again.

A 3-pointer by Jacobs sparked a Nevada offense that allowed the Pack to get points in eight out of its next 11 possessions for an eight-point Wolf Pack lead. Roden's jumper with 48 seconds left allowed Nevada to go ahead by seven heading into the final period.

Senior guard Gabby Giuffre, a transfer from San Diego, began Nevada's fourth quarter scoring spree with a 3-pointer for a double-digit lead. San Diego cut the deficit to single digits late in the fourth quarter, but Nevada's offense kept striking and continued the momentum for a 13-point win.

Nevada will continue its homestand at Lawlor Events Center Saturday against UCSB at 1 p.m. Saturday is Youth/Family Day, where Nevada coaches and players will host a postgame clinic for eighth grade and under and autographs for all fans.
