RENO, Nev. - Jarod Lucas scored a career-high 30 points on 9-14 shooting from the field and 6-8 from behind the arc, and five other players reached double figures in scoring, as the Nevada Men's Basketball team scored their most points in a game since November 2018 on their way to a 108-83 victory over Portland to improve to 4-0 and remain unbeaten.
The victory marks the second consecutive season that Nevada has won four consecutive games to begin the year.
Nevada was sensational on offense throughout the entire contest, as they shot an incredible 61.0 percent from the field and 54.2 percent from behind the arc, while tallying 31 assists on 36 made field goals. The 61.0 percent clip from the field marked the Pack's best field goal percentage in a game since February 2022.
The Pack scored 38 points in the paint, and Nevada's bench was outstanding for the second consecutive contest, pouring in 32 points.
Nevada dominated the game from start to finish, as the Pack led for 39:08 throughout the contest.
Lucas was phenomenal in the game, as the six 3-pointers made matched a career-high, and the fifth-year senior dished out three assists to go along with his career-high 30 points scored. Lucas also managed to knock down all six of his free throw attempts, and he finished the contest with a plus/minus of +20 in 33 minutes of action.
Tre Coleman finished second on the team in scoring, pouring in 15 points on 4-6 shooting from the field, 2-4 from behind the arc, and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Coleman also dished out three assists, recorded one block, and finished with a plus/minus of +16.
Kenan Blackshear had an exceptional all-around performance, as the fifth-year senior posted a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 11 assists. Blackshear also pulled down seven rebounds and tallied one steal.
Daniel Foster had one of the best performances of his career, scoring a career-high 14 points and pulling down a career-high nine rebounds, while also dishing out three assists. Foster was highly efficient on offense, converting on four of his six field goal attempts, including draining 2-3 shots from behind the arc. The senior finished the contest with a game-high plus/minus of +28 in 25 minutes of playing time.
Nick Davidson had another outstanding performance, scoring 13 points on 6-7 shooting from the field, while also grabbing eight rebounds, and dishing out a career-high four assists.
Freshman Jazz Gardner was tremendous off the bench for Nevada, once again providing instant offense for the Pack. Gardner scored 13 points on 6-7 shooting from the field and grabbed three rebounds, while earning a plus/minus of +12 in 10 minutes of action.
Nevada dominated the glass for the second consecutive game, outrebounding Portland 41-26. The Pack also did a sensational job of getting to the free throw line, as they knocked down 23 of their 33 free throw attempts.
First Half
Nevada got off to a tremendous start, hitting eight of their first nine shot attempts across the first 5:19 of the game, as they built an early 19-10 advantage. Lucas was particularly impressive to start the contest, draining three 3-pointers, as he accounted for nine of the Pack's first 19 points.
Portland battled back, scoring seven straight points to trim the Pack's lead to two points with 12:48 left in the first half.
Three made free throws from Nevada pushed the Pack's lead up to five, however, Portland hit a mid-range jumper to cut the deficit back down to three.
Foster responded by draining his first 3-pointer of the season; but, the Pilots hit back-to-back buckets to get back within two points of the Pack.
Another Nevada 3-pointer, this time by Tyler Rolison extended Nevada's lead to five with 9:06 left in the first period.
Nevada attempted to pull away multiple times; but, Portland continued to hit shots each time the Pack were nearing a big run.
With Nevada leading 38-33 with 5:02 remaining before halftime, Lucas made a nice drive and kicked it to Coleman who drained a corner three to push the Pack's lead up to eight. After the Pilots got a bucket in the paint, Foster found Gardner wide open under the hoop for a massive two-handed slam.
Following a defensive stop from Nevada, Gardner drained a 3-pointer to extend Nevada's lead to 11 points with 3:13 left in the first half, marking the first double digit lead for the Pack in the game.
The two squads traded free throws before Portland drilled a 3-pointer to trim Nevada's lead back down to eight with just over two minutes to go until halftime.
After exchanging free throws once again, Foster drilled another huge corner 3-pointer to push Nevada's lead back up to 11 with 1:06 left in the period. Blackshear then converted a layup off a Portland turnover, putting the Pack up 13, however, the Pilots hit a 3-pointer with five seconds to go in the half, as Nevada entered the break leading Portland 53-43.
Nevada knocked down 17 of 31 field goal attempts in the first half, including 8-16 shots from behind the arc. The Pack also pulled down six offensive rebounds and scored seven second chance points.
Second Half
Portland managed to trim the Pack's lead down to seven within the first 3:04 of the second period; but, Nevada responded in a massive way. Over the next 4:34, Nevada went on a sensational 21-10 run to build an 81-63 lead with 12:22 left in the game, as the Pack hit 7-7 shots from the field, including 2-2 shots from behind the arc, while also draining 5-6 shots at the free throw line.
Nevada never looked back, extending their lead to as much as 28 points, as the Pack cruised to a 25-point victory over the Pilots and improved to 4-0 on the season.
