RENO, Nev. – Nevada volleyball earned the 3-2 victory over the San Jose State Spartans in a five-set thriller at Virginia Street Gym Saturday afternoon, moving to 7-16 overall and earning their third win in Mountain West play with a record of 3-9.

The afternoon was filled with highlights from multiple Nevada players.
Gabby McLaughlin's 19 kills is a season high and her 19 kills ties for second-most of any Nevada player this year. McLaughlin's .410 hitting percentage was a career high. Freshman
Francesca King earned a career high 26 assists, four service aces including her first career ace followed with a career high of nine digs.

Hikialani Kaohelaulii tallied her second kill of her career while
Jaclyn Sanchez had 18 assists and
Lexi Applebach recorded 13 digs.

The Spartans jumped up to a 7-4 lead early in the first set before the Pack tied things up at 7-7 a piece with a kill from McLaughlin. At the media timeout, San Jose State took the lead by five points on a 3-0 scoring run with kills from Nayeli Ti'a and Jiana Lawson. The Spartans battled to continue their momentum, but Nevada fought back to shorten the lead by two, 18-16 after back-to-back kills from McLaughlin and Platt and a service ace by McLaughlin, forcing San Jose State to call timeout. San Jose State reached the 20-point landmark after a kill and an attack error called on Nevada, going up by four points nearing the end of the first set. The Spartans and Wolf Pack traded two points each, but after San Jose State's two points, a kill from Brooke Slusser and a service error by Nevada, the Pack called a timeout before San Jose State could reach set point at 23-19. San Jose State ultimately came away with the first set 25-20, going up 1-0 over Nevada. The Pack held San Jose State to zero service aces with a reception percentage of 1.000 in the first set.

The Pack started off firing from the start of the second set, going up 2-0 after a service error from the Spartans followed by Snyder's second kill of the match. A 7-3 lead gave Nevada their largest lead of the match thus far, but three errors from the Pack allowed the Spartans to come within one point. At the media timeout, Nevada extended their lead to five points with kills from McLaughlin and Clarke. McLaughlin secured her second service ace of the match, going up by six points to force another Spartan timeout as the Pack continued to battle and put the second set away to tie the match. A 3-0 scoring run allowed Nevada to go up by nine points, but the Spartans closed the gap earning three points to come within six. Snyder's fourth kill secured the set for the Pack 25-18, tying the match 1-1 across the board. Overall, Snyder hit .750 on four attacks in the set.

A 5-0 scoring run for the Pack started off the third set with a service ace by King followed by four errors by San Jose State. Three more errors including a service ace from Jiana Lawson allowed the Spartans to come within one at 5-4. The Spartans went on a 3-1 scoring run to tie the match at 11-11 with back-to-back kills from Selin Ozdemir and one kill from Nayeli Ti'a. Ti'a continued the San Jose State run with her second service ace of the match, scoring another point and taking the lead 12-11 over Nevada. Two blocks from Clarke and Schwartz kept the rally between the Spartans and Pack alive, but Nevada came away with the point from a kill by McLaughlin to go back up over San Jose State 17-16 before a kill by Slusser tied the set 17-17. The squads continued to trade points, but Nevada went up by three on a 2-0 scoring run, one point away from match point at 23-20. The Spartans answered back, scoring two of their own to come within one before the Pack called timeout. With the Spartans closing within one, the Pack took the second set 25-23 on a McLaughlin block, securing a 2-1 match lead heading into the fourth set.

 Nevada and San Jose State began trading points early in the fourth, but a 2-0 scoring run gave the Pack a 7-5 lead before the Spartans called timeout. A service error by Nevada's McLaughlin brought San Jose State within one before kills from Platt, Clarke, and McLaughlin along with a shared block from Clarke and Schwartz contributed to the Pack going up by two 16-14, forcing the Spartans to call a timeout. Nevada had a 19-16 lead before the Spartans capitalized and came away with two service aces from Laurel Barsocchini and a Wolf Pack service error to tie the set 19-19 a piece. Coming back from a Wolf Pack timeout, San Jose State scored four points, going up over Nevada 23-20. The Spartans reached set point on a service ace from Ti'a, her fifth of the match, before Ti'a earned another service ace to help the Spartans come back from behind and take the fourth set 25-20, tying the match 2-2.

The fifth set started out in similar fashion to the last two sets, both teams trading points and the lead. San Jose State took a two-point lead 6-4 before a kill by McLaughlin, marking her 17
th of the match, allowed the Pack to come within one point. Nevada's Platt earned her sixth kill of the afternoon to put the Pack up by one before San Jose State called timeout. At the halfway point, Liilii put up her sixth kill of the match, helping Nevada go up by two, helping start the momentum for the Pack and earn a 10-7 lead over the Spartans. A San Jose State error followed by Kaohelaulii's first service ace of the afternoon brought the Pack's lead to five points. A final kill from Clarke gave Nevada the 15-9 victory in the fifth set to give the Pack the 3-2 victory over San Jose State.
