Box Score BERKELEY, Calif. - Nevada Women's Tennis wrapped up its opening weekend of the fall campaign Sunday at the Berkeley Invitational.
The doubles team of
Anastasia Luneva and
Wiem Boubaker highlighted the weekend, winning the Grey Draw championship after picking up four victories. The Wolf Pack pair first defeated Long Beach State's Mathilde Tranberg and Hana Becirovic Novak, 8-4, then Sarah MacCallum and Natalie Lynch of Cal Poly, 8-3, to reach the semifinals. In the semis, Luneva and Boubaker downed the mixed team of Grace McSkimming of Sacramento State and Isabella Pitchford of Utah, 8-3. After Wolf Pack duo won the Grey Draw final by default when their BYU opponents withdrew themselves, however Boubaker and Luneva won their consolation match in place of the final.
In the Blue Draw, Léa Cakarevic and Amahée Charrier captured an 8-7 (3) opening-round victory over the Dunkle sisters of Cal Poly, while in the White Draw,
Kennedy Robinson and
Mia Miranda dropped their opening match 8-6 to Gonzaga's Rose Hayes and Ella Nielsen.
In singles play, Cakarevic and
Marlene Foerster each captured an opening-round victory in the Gold Draw. Cakarevic defeated UC Davis' Olive Maunupau, 6-3, 7-6 (4), while Foerster beat Sacramento State's Weronika Ejsmont, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1.
Robinson (6-4, 7-6 (3) over UC Davis' Daisy Maunupau) and Boubaker (6-2, 6-4 over Jamie Pope of Saint Mary's) grabbed opening-round singles wins in the White Draw.
Lou-Anne Guerbert, Charrier, and Miranda each lost their first singles matches.
During consolation play, Kennedy and Miranda defeated Julia Visaya and Qianer Qiu of San Francisco 8-5. Cakarevic and Charrier also managed a consolation victory on Sunday over San Jose State's Duru Durgu and Adriana Jimenez Casado 8-5. Indivually, Charrier (6-4, 1-6, 10-7 over BYU's Yuija Huang), Foerster (6-3, 6-3 over Cal Poly's Dunkle), Robinson (3-6, 6-4, 10-8 over San Jose State's Jimenez Casado), and Miranda (6-4, 6-2 over Pacific's Zara Fung).
The Wolf Pack will play its second tournament of fall from Oct. 18-22, at the ITA Mountain Regional in Salt Lake City.
