Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nevada pulls away from San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Behind a career-high 23 points from junior point guard Victoria Davis and a career-high 13 points from sophomore guard Kaylee Borden, Nevada women's basketball came away with a 74-67 road win at San Jose State on Thursday night.

Nevada used 52 percent shooting on the night, closing out the fourth quarter off 77.8 percent from the floor.

After San Jose State came back to tie the score 5-5 in the first quarter, junior guard Alyssa Jimenez knocked down a pull up jumper to give Nevada back its advantage. Free throws by junior forward Lexie Givens, junior guard Tiffany Siu and Davis allowed the Pack to take an eight-point lead. San Jose State, however, used six unanswered points to make it a one possession game to end the first quarter.

The Spartans opened the second quarter by taking the lead off a driving layup and free throw in the first two minutes. After a basket by Givens that turned the advantage back towards Nevada, San Jose State answered by capitalizing off a pair of turnovers and a 3-pointer with just over three minutes left to give the Spartans a 31-28 lead.

Following a San Jose State free throw, Borden helped cut the deficit to one with a 3-pointer. San Jose State responded with a hook shot to extend its lead before a free throw by Jimenez made it a 37-35 game going into the locker room.

The Spartans continued their momentum by going up by as many as eight in the third quarter. Nevada, however, hit a scoring spurt that quickly turned the tables. A 12-0 scoring run allowed Nevada to take a five-point lead, with San Jose State hitting a driving layup with nine seconds to go to make it a one possession game heading into the final quarter.

The Pack used a 9-0 scoring run to open the fourth quarter and never looked back, officially sealing the regular season sweep against San Jose State.

Nevada goes back on the road on Saturday to take on UNLV in Las Vegas at 2 p.m. in the Silver State Series.
