New Mexico’s red-hot shooting defeats Nevada

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico used 55 percent shooting to defeat Nevada 88-58 on Wednesday in the Pack's first visit to The Pit since 2020.

Junior guard Alyssa Jimenez led Nevada with 14 points while junior point guard Victoria Davis added 13 points. Davis collected her ninth double-digit point game of the season while Jimenez had her eighth game this season with at least 10 points or more.

Nevada jumped out to a quick 4-2 lead, but New Mexico responded by going on an 11-0 scoring run to swing the advantage. New Mexico capped off the first quarter outscoring Nevada 16-3 in the final five minutes of the quarter to take a double-digit lead.

The Lobos continued its red-hot shooting in the second quarter, finishing the first half shooting 65 percent. A buzzer beater jumper by New Mexico's Paula Reus allowed the Lobos to take a 27-point lead going into halftime.

New Mexico jumped out to a 30-point lead off a driving layup halfway through the third quarter, using an 8-0 scoring run followed by a layup with seven seconds left to move ahead by 38. Nevada held New Mexico to just 12 points in the fourth quarter while scoring 20, but the Pack were unable to make up the deficit.

Nevada returns home to Lawlor Events Center on Saturday to take on Utah State in its Pride Day game at 1 p.m.
