Christian Swint named Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee

RENO, Nev. - Nevada defensive back Christian Swint was named a nominee for the 2022 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, the American Football Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

Swint is one of 114 nominees for the final 22-member team (and honorary coach), which is selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members and journalists.

Swint, a fifth-year member of the Wolf Pack, was honored in May as one of Nevada Athletics' two recipients of the Give Back Like Jack Community Service Award. The award is given annually to a Wolf Pack student-athlete and staff member who best exemplify the dedication to community service that was the hallmark of longtime Reno and Sparks philanthropist Jack Reviglio's life.

Swint, a Compton, Calif. native, spent the past year volunteering with Path to Independence, a program for students with intellectual disabilities to attend college and earn a certificate, in the University of Nevada's Center for Excellence in Disabilities. He provided support to a student in the program by attending art class with her twice a week and helping her with all of her assignments and presentations.

He also served as a job coach to another student who had an internship sanitizing in the Knowledge Center, helping the student to create a checklist, songs and sayings to memorize their duties. He also helped teach the student social skills to interact with, greet and direct the public and co-workers. Swint hosted a lunch group twice a week for all Path to Independence students and attended men's and women's basketball games with them. According to his supervisor, he treated these students with so much respect and kindness and helped them gain confidence. A few of them said that these social opportunities were their favorite part of college.

On the field, Swint appeared in eight games in 2021, making a tackle-for-loss among his 10 tackles. He made 24 tackles with an interception in 2020. He has been named to the Fall Academic All-Mountain West Team each of the past three years.

Established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is one of the most coveted community service awards in college football. From the 114 nominees, the final roster of 23 award recipients will bring together 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision; 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA); and one honorary head coach. To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining strong academic standing.
