Wednesday, April 27, 2022 - 10 a.m.
RENO, Nev. -Â Nevada Women's Tennis will play for a shot at a conference title and NCAA Tournament bid this week, beginning action Wednesday morning at the 2022 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship.
Nevada (8-10, 2-7 MW), the No. 8 seed in the draw, faces No. 9 New Mexico (11-10, 2-6 MW) in the first round at 10 a.m. at El Conquistador Tucson, in Tucson, Ariz. Wednesday's winner will head to the quarterfinal to face No. 1 Fresno State Thursday at 10 a.m.
Nevada defeated New Mexico, 4-2, March 27 in Albuquerque, in the regular-season meeting between the teams.
The Pack, after a promising 2-2 start to Mountain West play, caught bad breaks which forced the absence of key players over the final weeks of the season, leading to a five-match slide to end the regular season.
However, Nevada has been boosted by the singles play of senior
Selina Turulja (9-7 on the year, 4-4 in MW matches) and newcomers freshman
Mariana Campino (11-4 overall, 5-2 in MW matches) and sophomore
Gabriella Charalampidi (4-3 overall, 3-0 in MW play). At doubles, the tandem of Turulja and Campino has shined for the Pack, going 10-5 on the season with three victories in Mountain West play.
