RENO, Nev. – The Nevada diving squad is set for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships March 7-9 in Flagstaff, Ariz. To qualify for the NCAA Championships, a diver must finish in the top eight in either the 1-meter or 3-meter springboard, or place ninth or higher in the platform dive. Prelims are set to start at 10:30 a.m. PT.
After making history in the 2022 Mountain West Championships, Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez, Linnea Sorensen, Jessie Nowotny, Bailey Heydra, and Lucia Gabino will be representing the Pack in the Zone E championships. Nevada will have representatives competing in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard as well as the platform.
Vazquez Lopez comes off from the Mountain West Championships with bronze medals in all three events. While Heydra secured a gold medal in the 1-meter springboard, the freshman finished sixth in the three-meter and 13th in the platform.
Sorensen was top 8 in all diving events. Sorensen finished fourth in the 3-meter, eighth in the platform, and 1-meter springboard. Senior, Nowotny was sixth in the 1-meter, 10th in the platform, and 17th in the 3-meter. While freshman Gabino was seventh in the 1-meter and 3-meter and ninth in the platform event. Â
