SAN DIEGO – For the second-straight meeting at Viejas Arena, Nevada and San Diego State went down to the final seconds. And, for the second-straight time, the Wolf Pack came up on the short end, falling, 65-63, Sunday afternoon.
The loss ends a week-long, three-game road trip for Nevada (9-12, 3-7 MW), which will return home to host Colorado State Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Nevada, without both starting point guard Grant Sherfield and starting forward Warren Washington for the third-straight game, fought back from eight down with just under seven minutes to go, and had the ball for a potential game-winning shot after Matt Bradley hit just one of two free throws with 9.6 seconds left to make it 65-63. But Will Baker stepped out of bounds in the corner on his go-ahead triple attempt, and the turnover ended it for the Pack.
Desmond Cambridge Jr. hit two of his five 3-pointers in the final two minutes to bring the Pack within a possession each time, the latter making it a 64-63 game with 18.9 seconds to go. Cambridge Jr. finished the game with a team-high 18 points, going 5-for-10 from deep.
Bradley scored 26 points to lead San Diego State, the only Aztec in double figures.
Baker scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting for Nevada, as the Pack out-rebounded San Diego State, 35-28.
