UP NEXT
Nevada returns home to host Colorado State Tuesday at 8 p.m., before heading back out on the road to Utah State (Feb. 11).
LAST TIME OUT
Nevada, still without starting point guard
Grant Sherfield and starting forward
Warren Washington, fell, 73-56, Friday at Fresno State.
Center
Will Baker scored 10 points over the first 10 minutes, as the Pack trailed just 19-17, but went to the bench with his second foul, with 9:38 remaining, and the Nevada offense went cold. Fresno State ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 33-24 lead at the break, and a 15-9 start to the second half put the Pack in a 15-point hole five minutes in.
Baker finished with 14 points, while
Desmond Cambridge Jr. led the team with 16.
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE
San Diego State (12-6, 4-3 MW) has split its past six contests, entering Sunday afternoon's contest, most recently falling, 58-57, at Colorado State Friday. The Aztecs, like the Wolf Pack, will be working on a short turnaround, having played a night road game Friday, then traveling to San Diego for a Sunday afternoon game.
The Aztecs boast the nation's fourth-ranked scoring defense (56.9 ppg allowed), and rank third in opponent field-goal percentage (37.1). Offensively, Matt Bradley leads San Diego State with 16.6 points per game, with 27 3-pointers.
INJURY UPDATE
Nevada was without two starters, point guard
Grant Sherfield (foot) and forward
Warren Washington (hand), for its second-straight game Friday night at Fresno State. Both will be gameday decisions ahead of Sunday's game at San Diego State.
For Sherfield, Tuesday at UNLV was the first game he has missed in his Nevada career, snapping a run of 44-straight games. Friday night was Nevada's third-straight game without Washington, who left Jan. 25's game at Colorado State five minutes in, due to injury.
GOING INTO VIEJAS
Nevada will seek its first win at Viejas Arena since a 76-71 win Nov. 14, 1998, when it tips off Sunday at San Diego State.
The Pack has lost nine-straight at the arena, and came tantalizingly close to stopping that slide in last year's two-game series. In the opener,
Grant Sherfield's game-tying 3-pointer didn't fall in an eventual 65-60 loss, and, in the closer, San Diego State's Trey Pulliam banked home a buzzer-beating pullup to steal a 69-67 win for the Aztecs.
MOUNTAIN WEST...MEET WILL BAKER
Redshirt sophomore
Will Baker, a transfer from Texas, posted his eighth double digit-scoring performance in nine Mountain West games. Friday night at Fresno State, Baker scored 10 points over the first 10 minutes of the game, but early foul trouble sent him to the bench, and limited him to just 19 minutes of action.
Baker, who finished the game with 14 points, has scored in double figures in seven-straight games. In Mountain West play, he's averaging 11.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.6 percent from the field.
