Nevada clinches three medals to hold second place on team standings

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Nevada clinches three medals on day three of the Mountain West Championships and holds second place on team standings. The Pack has a total of 889.5 points going into the last day, behind San Diego State (1082.5 points), and ahead of in-state rivals UNLV (792 points).

The Pack was led by Reno natives Donna dePolo and Benedict Nagy winning both of their events. dePolo claimed her gold medal in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 59.84. While Nagy defended her Mountain West Champion title in the 400 IM, with a time of 4:14.38. Both times by dePolo and Nagy were NCAA 'B' cuts.

With a deep breaststroke group, the Pack had senior Wiktoria Samula tied in sixth place (1:00.91), Mikayla Dance (1:01.15) in 9th, and Nicolette Jasko (1:03.15) in 13th. While senior, Gianni Pitto (4:25.29) finished eighth, and junior Destiny Kling (4:26.29) in 15th.

Senior, Caitlyn McHugh on her second event of the day, picked a third place in the 200 free, with a time of 1:47.89. Senior, Mariana Vignoli (1:51.33) finished in 20th place.

Seniors, Josien Wijkhuijs and Julia Adamczyk held their spot from the prelims of the 100 fly, finishing ninth and tenth, with times of 54.45 and 54.61, respectively.

Junior, Kyla Alexander led the Pack in the 100 back after finishing sixth, with a time of 54.68. Wijkhuijs, on her third event of the day, finished seventh in 55.00.
Nevada's 200 free relay squad, Wijkhuijs, McHugh, Colette Berkenfield, and Jasko finished fifth, with a time of 1:32.73.

The squad will be back in the pool tomorrow morning, at 10:30 PT for the prelims of the 1650 free, 200 backstroke, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and platform. In the afternoon, the finals will be starting at 4:30 PT, and the 400 free relay will close the meet.
