Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

San Diego holds on to defeat Nevada

SAN DIEGO - Nevada women's basketball was defeated by San Diego 68-62 on Sunday at the USD Winter Classic.

Sophomore guard Audrey Roden came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points while grabbing five rebounds. She averaged 20 points per game in the USD Winter Classic.

After San Diego snagged the early lead in the first quarter, graduate student Megan Ormiston knocked down a jump shot to tie the game at 10. San Diego scored the next two baskets to cap off the first quarter with the advantage.

San Diego managed to hold its lead for the majority of the second quarter, but a pair of free throws from Roden allowed Nevada to make it a one-possession game going into the locker room. Roden continued to carry Nevada through the third quarter, drilling a turnaround jumper and a driving layup that allowed the Pack to take its first lead of the second half. San Diego quickly responded by burying a 3-pointer, carrying the three-point advantage into the final 10 minutes of play.

The Toreros used an 11-3 scoring run to open the fourth quarter that stretched their lead out to double-digits. Nevada continued to claw its way back into the game, capitalizing off a pair of baskets while drawing the foul. Roden's "and one" basket with under one minute to go cut the San Diego lead down 64-62, but Nevada was unable to convert its final two possessions that allowed the Toreros to clinch the victory.

Nevada returns to Lawlor Events Center on Thursday, bringing back the annual "When I Grow Up" game against Long Beach State at 11 a.m.
