Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Red-hot shooting pushes Oregon State past Nevada

Kihei, Maui, Hawaii - Nevada women's basketball dropped its first game of the Maui Classic to Oregon State 96-84 on Saturday at the South Maui Community Park Gymnasium.

Graduate student Megan Ormiston led the Pack with a team-high 21 points while coming down with four rebounds. Junior point guard Victoria Davis added a career-high 20 points while junior guard Alyssa Jimenez scored 14 points in addition to grabbing eight rebounds to go with six assists.

Oregon State's Talia von Oelhoffen scored a game-high 41 points, the most points under OSU head coach Scott Rueck.

With Ormiston setting the tone by scoring the first two baskets for the Pack, Nevada got an added spark off the bench from sophomore guard Audrey Roden. Playing against a team that is 80 miles away from where she grew up, the West Linn, Oregon, native drained a pair of jump shots and two 3-pointers to put Nevada ahead 26-23 to conclude the first quarter.

The Beavers, however, used a 20-7 scoring run to take a 10-point lead halfway through the second quarter. After nailing a second-chance jumper, Ormiston dove on the floor to capture the loose ball that resulted in a 3-pointer by junior guard Tiffany Siu. Nevada managed to cut the deficit down to five points going into the locker room.

Oregon State started the third quarter on a 15-3 scoring run and moved ahead by 17 heading into the final 10 minutes, but Nevada capitalized off a shooting foul and Oregon State technical foul. After sinking three free throws, Davis knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the deficit down to 10 points. Although Nevada continued to fight, Oregon State never trailed by less than 10 in the fourth that allowed the Beavers to clinch its sixth win over the Pack in the NCAA era.

Nevada wraps up the Maui Classic and non-conference play on Sunday against Montana State at 6 p.m.
