Nevada Earns Thrilling 75-66 Victory Over Tulane on Day One of Cayman Islands Classic

GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman - The University of Nevada Men's Basketball team outscored Tulane 46-34 in the second half, erasing a three-point halftime deficit to earn their fifth consecutive victory to begin the season.

The Wolf Pack maintained their defensive prowess, limiting Tulane to just 37.5 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from behind the arc, marking the lowest marks for the Green Wave in a single game this season.

Jarod Lucas once again led the Pack in scoring, pouring in a team-high 22 points, and knocking down 11-12 shots from the free-throw line.

Kenan Blackshear also had another strong outing for Nevada, as the senior point guard recorded the third double-double of his career, scoring 11 points and pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds. Blackshear also dished out a team-high five assists in the contest.

Junior forward Tre Coleman had his best offensive outing of the season, scoring 13 points while matching a career-high with four 3-pointers made.

Seven out of eight players for the Pack scored at least six points, and all eight players that saw action scored in the contest.

Will Baker got things started for Nevada, hitting a turnaround jumper in the paint on the Pack's first possession of the game. Coleman followed up Baker's bucket by knocking down a 3-pointer and after Blackshear hit two free-throws, the Pack found themselves up 7-0 just under three minutes into the game.

After Tulane hit a 3-pointer, freshman guard Trey Pettigrew drilled a contested shot from behind the arc to push the lead back to seven heading into the first media timeout.

The two squads scored nine points apiece over the next six minutes, as Nevada held a 21-14 advantage with nine minutes remaining in the first half.

The Green Wave found their offensive rhythm towards the end of the period, managing to take their first lead of the game at the 3:52 mark in the first half. The two teams went back and forth to end the period; but, Tulane was able to take a 32-29 lead into the break

Nevada held Tulane to just 3-15 shooting from three in the first half and 12-32 from the field overall.

Blackshear set the tone for the Pack to start the second period, pulling down a tough offensive rebound and finishing strong at the rim to cut the deficit to just one.

The Pack continued to trail for the first four minutes and 52 seconds of the second half; until redshirt freshman Nick Davidson drilled a 3-pointer, recapturing the lead for Nevada, as the Pack took a 43-41 advantage with just over 15 minutes to go in the contest.

The Green Wave responded with an 11-4 run over the next five-and-a-half minutes to take a five-point lead, their largest lead of the contest with 9:30 to play.

Playing shorthanded, the Pack refused to give up, showing exceptional poise, as they continued to battle back. Nevada responded to Tulane's run, by going on an incredible 20-6 run of their own over the next seven minutes, taking a nine-point lead on a Coleman-made 3-pointer with just 2:03 to go in the game. Over the course of the seven-minute run, the Pack knocked down 7-12 shots from the field, including a stellar five of nine shots from behind the arc. Coleman caught fire and drilled three 3-pointers alone throughout the run.

Tulane managed to cut the lead to five with just 46 seconds to go, but Nevada knocked down 6-6 shots from the free-throw line to close out the game, earning their most impressive victory of the season thus far.
