UNLV defeats Nevada in Silver State Series

LAS VEGAS - Nevada women's soccer fell to UNLV 3-1 on Thursday night at the Peter Johann Memorial Soccer Field.

Senior goalkeeper Jessica FitzWilliam collected her first career start in Thursday's Silver State Series, grabbing a career-high nine saves in the process.

FitzWilliam established her presence early against the UNLV offensive attack. UNLV fired a shot in the match's first minute, but the Agoura Hills, California, native snagged her first save of the match to keep the match scoreless.

Following 24 minutes of back-and-forth action, sophomore forward Emily Rich put the Pack on the scoreboard. Rich used her speed to blast through the UNLV defense and gave herself an opening that allowed the Coarsegold, California, native to score her fourth goal of the season.

UNLV responded with a goal six minutes later that allowed the Rebels to tie the score 1-1. The Rebels drew a penalty kick with less than one minute to go in the first half, knocking the ball in the back of the net to take the lead going into halftime.

After 10 minutes of even play to open the second half, the Rebels scored another goal in the 55th minute to extend their lead 3-1. UNLV held Nevada to five shots following the third Rebel goal, preventing another score by the Pack to secure the victory.
