Nevada tips off exhibition slate Friday

RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball will play its first exhibition game on Friday against Fresno Pacific at the Lawlor Events Center at 2 p.m.

The Pack collected 20 wins in the 2021-22 season, the second-most victories in Nevada women's basketball history. After finishing third in the Mountain West Conference, Nevada was invited to the WBI for the second time under head coach Amanda Levens. Nevada returns nine players in 2022-23, including Mountain West All-Defensive Team selection and rising junior Alyssa Jimenez along with Mountain West All-Freshman Team guard Audrey Roden. Levens will begin the first year of her five-year contract extension this season.

"There's a great buzz and excitement in our community coming off of last season," Levens said. "Everyone is just excited to get started and see what we are able to do this year."

Nevada has been victorious in their previous three exhibition games, defeating Fresno Pacific 73-49 in the Pack's exhibition game last season. The Pack had key contributions from players off the bench, including Roden with 11 points and current junior forward Lexie Givens scoring nine points and grabbing three rebounds in the contest.

In addition to the returning guard experience, Nevada will have the luxury of having returning post players such as Megan Ormiston and Givens. Ormiston was a starter before getting injured while Givens averaged over 12 points per game in February.

"(Last year) gave me a lot of confidence," Givens said. "I was really productive towards the end of last year because I got my groove. I know what my job is and what I'm supposed to do every game."

The Pack gained newcomers that look to make an immediate impact in 2022-23. Junior point guard Victoria Davis (Hampton) and junior guard Gabby Giuffre (San Diego) transferred to Nevada to join freshman forward Kennedy Lee

Fresno Pacific finished 9-15 and 6-11 in conference play last year, averaging 61.8 points per game. Redshirt junior guard Rachel Berry led the Sunbirds in scoring with 10.2 points per game while grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game.

Single game tickets for the exhibition games start at just $5. All seating will be general admission.
