SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's contest will be the 15th meeting all-time between Nevada and San Diego State. The Aztecs lead the series, 8-6, but Nevada is 4-2 in the series at Mackay Stadium. Last year's 23-21 loss in Carson, Calif., snapped Nevada's three-game winning streak against San Diego State.
ABOUT SAN DIEGO STATE
San Diego State (3-3, 1-1 MW) defeated Hawai'i, 16-14, at home back on Oct. 8. The Aztecs are coming off of their bye weekend, headed into Saturday's contest in Reno.
BALL-HAWKIN'
Nevada is among the top teams in the country when it comes to takeaways, in 2022. The Pack defense has taken the ball away from opposing defenses 15 times this season, with 10 of those coming via interception.
Thrice this season, Nevada has had at least three takeways in a contest: five at New Mexico State (Aug. 27), four against Texas State (Sept. 3), and three against Colorado State (Oct. 7). Only twice this season (Sept. 17 at Iowa, Sept. 23 at Air Force) has the Pack gone a game without a takeaway.
Heading into this weekend, Nevada ranks seventh in the country with its 15 takeaways, and  eighth in the nation with 10 interceptions, after Elijah Winston's juggling pick Saturday at Hawai'i.
WINSTON GETS FIRST PICK
Linebacker
Eli'jah Winston has steadily worked his way into the Pack's defensive rotation over the past month, and the extra reps paid off in Honolulu, as he made his first-career interception. The pick also entitled him to bear Nevada's "Takeaway Trident" for the first time.
After making a season-high three tackles Oct. 7 against Colorado State, Winston followed Saturday in Honolulu by deflecting a Rainbow Warrior pass, then, while on his back, tipping the ball back to himself for the takeaway. The interception led to a Nevada field goal, which cut the Rainbow Warrior lead to 14-10.
