LA MIRADA, Calif. - Nevada women's tennis got its 2022 spring season off to a victorious start Friday, defeating Biola University, 5-2.
The Pack (1-0) got strong efforts from a pair of underclassmen in sophomore
Mathilde Sarcelet and freshman
Mariana Campino in the win. Sarcelet teamed with
Cristina Moll Alles to grab a 6-4 doubles win, then, in singles action, claimed a point for Nevada by roaring back from down a set to defeat Biola's Gaby Carvajal 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Campino, in her collegiate debut, dropped just one game over both her doubles and singles competition Friday. In doubles action, Campino teamed with
Selina Turulja to down Carvajal and Brooke Fager, 6-0, then swept to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lilly McNeill at the No. 3 singles spot.
At No. 1 singles,
Anastasia Luneva got her spring off to a winning start, coming back from a set down to beat Colbeyshae Emery 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, following a 6-2 doubles win with
Milka Genkova over Emery and Mary Brascia.
Turulja claimed a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 win at No. 4 over Alexandria Mann.
Nevada wraps its opening weekend Saturday at UC Riverside, with first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
