Nevada cross country competes at 35th annual Roy Griak Invitational

RENO, NEV. – The Nevada Wolf Pack men's and women's cross country team competed at the 35th annual Roy Griak Invitational, which saw success from some very familiar faces. 

The top time of the women's side was by sophomore Tierney Wolfgram. The Minnesota native would finish the meet in 12th place with a time of 21:13. The top time at the invitational was 20:57, which was 10 seconds slower than Wolfgram's time at the USF Invitational.

The top time for the men's side was by junior Adam Sjolund. The junior would finish with a time of 25:12, which earned him a 27th place finish. Sjolund was named the Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Month just yesterday. 

Other top times for the women's veterans include a time of 22:55 by senior Kate Rye. The senior would earn a 79th place finish for her time. Sophomore Marena Middleton finished in 104th place with a time of 23:19. Lastly, sophomore Carley Legenbauer finished in 166th with a time of 24:20.

The men's side also saw impressive times and personal bests from their veterans. Junior Andrew Ribeiro finished with a personal best time of 26:01. The time not only earned him a 77th place finish, but also beat his old personal best of 26:37. Junior Carson Leavitt also earned a personal best with his 79th place time of 26:02. This beating his old personal best of 26:10. 

The Pack had four freshmen compete on the women's side. Penelope Smerdon, who finished in 129th place, earned a time of 23:37. Alison Graf finished in 151st place with a time of 23:57. Madelyn Shipman would finish the meet with a time of 24:27, which earned her a 173rd place finish. Lastly, Claire Nelson with her time of 24:30 finished in 176th place.

Four other men's athletes also competed at the meet. Junior Jared Marchegger would finish the meet in 82nd place with a time of 26:04. Senior Alex Mendoza earned a time of 26:30, which would put him at 115th place. Freshman Zander Simone, who entered the top-10 all-time list for the men's 8k in his first meet, finished in 128th with a time of 26:39. Finally, junior Brian Kipchumba finished in 139th with a time of 26:48.

At the end of a very stacked invitational, the Pack women's team would finish in 16th with a point total of 402, while the men finished in 12th with a point total of 329pts. Both the men's and women's cross country teams will compete next at the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 16.
