Palmer punches ticket to Tokyo Olympics

INDIANAPOLIS – Nevada dive alum and volunteer assistant Krysta Palmer punched her ticket to the Tokyo Olympic Games in the women's synchronized 3-meter springboard on Thursday night.

Palmer and her partner, Texas alum Alison Gibson, finished first with a final score of 899.82 at the U.S. Diving Olympic trials. Palmer and Gibson are scheduled to compete for Team USA in Tokyo on July 25 at 11 p.m. PT.

The Carson City, Nev., native becomes the seventh Olympian in program history and the first to represent Team USA. Other Nevada swim and dive Olympians include Natalia Pulido (Spain 1992), Lise Mackie (Australia, 1992-96), Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn (Thailand, 2004-08), May Ooi (Singapore 1992), Limin Liu (China, 1996-2000) and Diana Sokolowska (Poland, 2012).

Palmer competed for the Pack from 2012-16, earning two NCAA All-American honorable mention accolades and two Mountain West Diver of the Year awards. In addition, Palmer compiled four Mountain West titles and competed in two NCAA Championships during her junior and senior campaigns. As a senior, Palmer was named Nevada's 2015-16 Ruth Russell Award winner, which is given annually to the school's top senior female student-athlete.

Palmer also looks to represent Team USA in the women's 3-meter springboard. Finals for the 3-meter springboard are on Saturday at 1:50 p.m. PT. Palmer currently sits in first with a score of 655.15.
