RENO, Nev. -Â Nevada head coach
Steve Alford announced the signing of forward Trey Wade (Marietta, Ga./Wichita State) to the Wolf Pack program Thursday.
Wade, who will have one season of eligibility remaining, comes to Nevada from Wichita State, where he started 47 of 52 games, and averaged 7.1 points and 5.5 rebounds over the past two seasons. In 2020-21, Wade started 21 of the Shockers' 22 games, averaging 6.7 points and a team-leading 5.6 rebounds over 26.0 minutes per game. His performance helped Wichita State go 16-6 on the year, capture the American Athletic Conference regular-season title, and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
He will join a Nevada program that is coming off a 16-10 campaign (10-7 MW) and reached the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament in March.
"Trey is a winner! We love his intensity with which he competes," Alford said. "He's a versatile player that defends and rebounds at a high level. Trey understands what it takes within a team to succeed and compete for championships."
Wade will reunite with a familiar face on the Wolf Pack roster in rising junior guard and 2020-21 Mountain West Newcomer of the Year
Grant Sherfield, a former Wichita State teammate in 2019-20. Together, the pair helped the Shockers to a 23-8 record as Wade averaged 7.4 points and 5.4 rebounds over 31 games, with 27 starts.
Prior to joining Wichita State ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, Wade played his redshirt sophomore season at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. There, he was an all-conference and all-region selection, averaging 13.4 points and 6.9 rebounds and making 34 starts.
He spent his first two seasons (2016-18) at UTEP, redshirting his freshman season before appearing in 25 games, with six starts, and averaging 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Miners in 2017-18.
