RENO, Nev. - A large test looms this week for the Nevada baseball team as the Wolf Pack will play a pair of games on the road at No. 3 Texas this week.
The Wolf Pack and Longhorns will play a single game on Tuesday and a single game on Wednesday, with both games scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. PT first pitch. Each game can be seen live on the Longhorn Network.
Nevada is riding some momentum into this two-game set as it is fresh off of a Mountain West series victory over San Diego State, the league's top team. The Wolf Pack took two out of three from the Aztecs this past weekend, winning the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, and pulling out a 5-3 series clinching victory on Sunday. The win solidified the Wolf Pack's first Mountain West series victory on the road this season, and also handed the Aztecs their first conference series loss of the season. Nevada improved to 10-13 overall with the win and is now 7-8 in league play. For San Diego State, which entered the series with the conference's best record and the national lead in team batting average, fell to 17-8 overall and 12-6 in MW action.
Dario Gomez was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for his efforts in helping the Wolf Pack to that series victory at SDSU. Gomez was instrumental in helping the Wolf Pack take two out of three on the road from conference-leading San Diego State over the weekend. The Las Vegas native batted .571 in three games and led the Wolf Pack with eight hits, including two doubles and a triple. Gomez recorded 12 total bases over the weekend and added five RBI and a team-high six runs scored. He also posted a perfect fielding percentage, making five putouts and had one assist.
Ranked at No. 3 entering this week, Texas will become the highest ranked opponent for the Wolf Pack since it played No. 2 Oregon State at home back in April of 2019. Nevada took both of those games from the Beavers, who were the defending national champions at the time, winning in dramatic fashion in both affairs, 8-7 in 12 innings in game one and 7-6 in 10 innings in game two.
ON THE AIR
Josh Suchon will have the call in Northern Nevada on CBS Sports Radio 94.1 FM and 1450 AM with a 20 minute pregame show prior to first pitch for both games. Fans can also tune in to listen to Suchon's broadcast online at TuneIn.com or via the TuneIn app.
Both games can also be seen live on the Longhorn Network with a subscription.

GOMEZ NAMED MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the first time in his career, Nevada outfielder
Dario Gomez has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week.
During game two of Saturday's doubleheader, Gomez played a huge role in the Pack scoring eight runs between the seventh and eighth innings to overcome a 6-2 deficit and win 10-6. In the five-run seventh, Gomez doubled, stole third and scored a run, while in the three-run eighth he singled home two runs and eventually scored himself. In Sunday's 5-3 series clinching victory, Gomez went 3-for-4 at the plate and threw out an SDSU runner attempting to score in the second inning, preserving a two-run lead in a tight ball game.
PACK TAKES DOWN NO. 1
After a split doubleheader against San Diego State on Saturday, the Nevada baseball team took the series with a 5-3 victory in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
In Sunday's series finale win, true freshman
Cam Walty earned the first win of his collegiate career after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits while striking out a season-high five batters. The Nevada bullpen shut down the potent Aztecs offense and held them scoreless for the final three frames of the ball game. During the win on Saturday the Wolf Pack scored eight runs between the seventh and eighth innings to erase a 6-2 deficit and earn a 10-6 win.
SEEING DOUBLE
Tyler Bosetti has been a doubles machine this season. No really, Bosetti has established himself as one of the best two-bag hitters in all of college baseball this season. Entering the two-game series against No. 3 Texas this week, Bosetti's 13 doubles ranks him first in the Mountain West and third in the nation. He's been particularly hot as of late with six doubles in his last six games.
GOMEZ ON FIRE
Newcomer
Dario Gomez, a redshirt sophomore transfer from San Joaquin Delta Junior College, has seemingly adjusted to Division I baseball just fine. Gomez has started in center field for the Wolf Pack in all 23 games this season and leads the team in nearly every offensive category. Not only does Gomez lead the team in most offensive categories, but he ranks highly in the Mountain West in each as well. Against Fresno State, Gomez collected eight RBI in game two alone. It was the most RBI by a Wolf Pack player in a single game since Mike Echavia posted seven against New Mexico in 2017. It also marked the most by a Mountain West player in a single game this season and second-most in the nation. In that second game against the Bulldogs, Gomez was 4-for-5 with those eight RBI, three runs scored, a double and a home run.
PACK PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH IN MW STANDINGS
Nevada has been slated to finish fifth in the Mountain West Preseason Poll that was released on Feb. 11, 2021. San Diego State was selected as the preseason Mountain West favorite as the Aztecs received six first place votes. Fresno State garnered one first place vote and was picked to finish in the runner-up spot. New Mexico and UNLV were tied for third place, followed by Nevada, Air Force and San Jose State.
UP NEXT
Nevada's conference series against New Mexico scheduled for this weekend has been canceled and will not be made up. The Pack will be back in action at Air Force on April 24-25 for three games.
